“Nice pearl in the north...”

This was a great hotel stay, in a very nice room (best in my Europe stay), with a courteous and helpful staff. Good value for my euro. Great complimentary breakfast. Super quick public train & bus into the city center. Fabulous little pasta and pizza place on the corner next door; best food I ate in Italy all week!! All in all, an excellent experience. Would gladly stay there again, given how easy it was to get to the central sites for a single euro ticket...

“DO NOT BOOK here, purposeful deception, run down, no management”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2007

Like others I have just read reviews by, we were directed from the Ritz reception to another hotel along a hallway called the Regent. The room we were shown had two single beds instead of the double we booked as well a a burst fold away single bed in the corner in lieu of a chair. the second room was bigger but in a serious state of disrepair - it probably looked ok about 10 years ago and hasnt been touched since. the toilet was broken and constantly ran water which left a thick jelly like residue in the toilet pan - obviously not properly cleaned in months. above the sink was a bare light bulb in a broken fitting. there was black mildew all over the ceiling of the bathroom and the shower ran like a tap.
In the bed room the bed was burst at the side, the chair had a dried in wet stain on the seat, the walls were covered in scrapes, scuffs and general dirt. Outside the room the carpets were so worn there was a large hole in the carpet and only one very small lift worked, the other didn't work and we were on the 8th floor.
I complained to the Ritz recepetion as that was who my booking was with and asked to be given a room in the Ritz after all. the woman on reception told me there was no difference between the Ritz and the Regent but also said the fact the Ritz was fully booked while the Regent had rooms. She said there was no manager in the building - in fact she denied having any superior staff in the building at all, and the only way to get a refund was to speak to the manager in the morning. In the morning there was no manager either.
A deadful and upsetting experience.

“Excellent Service”

We have just returned from Rome on a 5 day Pilgrimage and stayed at the Grand Ritz Regent Hotel, Plaza Ecluide. The Reception staff & Restaurant staff were very accomodating to all my 31 Pilgrims needs and very pleasant throughout our stay. Although we were a little out of the tourist area, it was not difficult to reach the Vatican City by train & metro, and the cost was only 1 Euro per journey and took only 15-20 minutes. Ecluide station was practically adjacent to the hotel & there were many good shops and cafe's in the Plaza. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel as it was very comfortable, the food and service excellent and the area was very safe.

  • Liked — Friendliness of the staff
  • Disliked — Some rooms did not have a view, they overlooked the generators!

“First Class Hotel "Lovely ambience"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2007

Visited this hotel over Easter and found the hotel staff very helpful. Our room was changed with no problem as we found our safe did not work (this was done within 5 mins of us reporting the problem) Room very comfortable beautifully decorated with fabric wallpaper and luxurious drapes.Bathroom very adequate with shower and whirlpool bath.
Hotel is approx 20 mins walk from Piazza del Popolo and it is right beside the tube station (tube stops at 9pm every night) A "little shudder" can be felt now and again but no big problem!!! We travelled from the airport after arriving Easy Jet (11.15am)and took a bus to Anagnina (20min journey) 1 euro cost and 1 euro extra if you have a suitcase We then purchased a day tube ticket (BIG) for 4 euros and took the tube to Flaminio changed tube to the Viterbo line and 1 stop later reached Euclide stop whichh is right beside the Hotel. Breakfast at the Hotel is continental breakfast varied choice but cooked breakfast is available if required ie 6euros for scrambled egg and bacon.
We recommend The Pepperone Restaurant Via Vittorio Veneto for an excellent meal/service We definitely will be visiting Rome again and hope to visit The Grand Rirz Hotel

“Very Romantic Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2006

This hotel was made for Kings and Queens once upon a time. But now it is simply a beauty from the past. The hotel inside is very luxurious and looks like 5*. Before you reach to your room all corridors are super luxurious but seem old style (60s). Inside the room you see a very spacious ( like suite ) room and a very spacious bathroom with basin, with old flowered fabric on all walls and doors. The room was warm and wonderful with mirrors and many bordeau curtains. Super for a romantic night. Also wonderful to sleep there. Logical prices in minibar and restaurant. The room could be renovated a bit more however, since on the website it says last renovation on 2004, but it does not seem like this ( walls, locks, taps of the basin). Breakfast very good, and very clever staff and good hearted. I would certainly go there again although the hotel was not centrally located, because it was so beautiful, and I passed so well.
The first morning I wake up too late and I lost the breakfast hours, and they gave to me breakfast in the bar without paying. I liked this a lot, not for the 5 euros I earned, but because they were very polite to me.
The only bad thing was that I payed a lot of money for the phone, so do not make phone calls from the hotel. They do not have wireless internet. They have PCs in the lobby (6 euros per 8 hours).
The location is very beautiful with shops and restaurants. The hotel is beside the Station Euclide.
Generally, it was very good experience. If they put some money for 1-2 things they would be perfectly 5*hotel. You feel Emperor in Roma of 2006 and it is very nice feeling.
