We stayed four nights from November 4 to 7, 2011. The front desk staff was friendly and very helpful, We took the Leonardo Express from FCO to the Termini station when we flew into Rome, then walked to the hotel. It was bit of a hike with luggage, but not incredibly difficult as the streets are fairly oedestrian-friendly.
Our room (#326) was ready at 10 in the morning when we arrived and the service throughout the stay was great. The breakfast in the morning on the terrace was amazing: even in November, the views are inspiring. Each day was the same, but that is usually the case in buffet-style breakfasts: eggs, bacon, bagels, tea, free cappuccino, fresh juice, yogurt and muffins. No fresh fruit, but not much is in season in November so we were happy with canned peaches.
We were catching a cruise out of Civitavecchia (the port about an hour from Rome), so we took the train to the port, also, which was an easy and uneventful experience ( 7 euros each versus $100 USD for shuttles or cabs) It can be challenging getting heavy bags off the steep, narrow train stairs alone, though, so be prepared.
Do NOT miss the gelato shop around the corner from the Marcella Royal: Caruso's at 13 Via Collina (literally half a block away.) There are ATMs near the hotel, and several good cafes with pizza and salads at reasonable prices. Our only complaints were that the room was tiny (very nice, quite comfortable and perfectly clean, just very very small) and the noise at night outside in the city can be astonishing (trash trucks, motor bikes, noisy walkers and heaven knows what else.) Ask for a room AWAY from the street if possible. The street views are great but the noise was intense. ALso, at times the free wifi in the room was spotty (so we wnet downstairs to the free PC in the lobby) but the good cafe right next door made up for that: try the linguini with clams for 4 euros along with a huge glass of white wine- ah- Roma!
Room Tip: Ask for a room AWAY from the steet, where it will be a littel quieter at night.
