“NOT a 5*”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

We only stayed for 1 night thankfully in this Old Lady! It may once have been a beauty but it has faded over the past 50 years! Our room was very dark and overlooked a courtyard. There was damp around the electric soclets in the bedroom, the carpet was all rippled and the air conditioning didnt work.
Breakfast was like something from an old 50s movie and some of the food may have been as old!
Thankfully it was only 1 night as we were badly bitten by mosquitos cause we had to leave the window open at night.
Good location but there are plenty more on the Via Veneto.

“Bed bug warning”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

We stayed at the hotel in October 2011 and had a room on the top floor. For 2 nights we were bitten to death by bed bugs, I had over 25 bites, my wife had 15. The hotel moved us to another room (magnificent, best on the hotel), but refused to make any refund for the 2 nights in the bug infested room. On return to the UK I complained in writing, but all we were offered was a room upgrade next time we visited. Apart from this, the hotel is OK, but certainly not 5 star. The bar and restaurant are very expensive

Dear Guest,

Thanks for your review. We are very sorry to read about your experience in our hotel. However, we would inform you that your request to have money back was refused because our staff, then your complaint, checked the bed bugs in your room, but as we expected, there weren’t. We don’t have infested room as you wrote, moreover, we want to emphasize that 4 times a year (every 3 months), we carry out a certificated disinfestation and pest control, so we’re sure that they couldn’t be bed bugs. Maybe there were mosquitos. Nonetheless, we are very pleased to host you in our hotel for the next trip in Rome, we hope to see you again to show you that we respect high quality standard. It’s very important for us that our guests are satisfied, so if you decide to come back at the Ambasciatori Palace, we’ll reserve you a special treatment.

King Regards,

“Short stay Ambasciatori Palace”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

I only stayed at the Hotel for one night and I must say that I have mixed feelings about it. The location, staff, cleanliness and breakfast cannot be faulted (although perhaps not quite up to full 5 Star standard). The room was disappointing (even by 3 Star standards) but then the bathroom was massive and luxurious! Since I got the room at a very reduced price and also considering the short lenght of stay I was happy but had I paid the full price and stayed for a longer period then I would have probably inisisted in getting a better room or looked for another hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms overlooking Via Veneto as these can be noiisy at night.

“A Good Location and A Pleasant Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

This hotel is in a good location within Central Rome, with the main railway station a 10 minute walk away and the main tourist attractions within reasonable walking distance.
The hotel itself is perhaps slightly faded from it's original grandeur, but we had no issues with staying here.
The staff were efficient and friendly, while the room was large and very clean. Although the bedroom itself was rather plain, the bathroom appeared to have been recently upgraded and was excellent.
Our room was located on the inside, overlooking the central well - so no view, but on the plus side, very quite, with no traffic noise at all.
The buffet breakfast was very good.
Overall, we would be very happy to stay at this hotel again in the future.

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

I booked this hotel as a trip for my husband's 40th birthday. Whilst the entrance to the hotel was lovely, the room was a slightly better than 3* and very disappointing given the price. The two gentlemen on the front desk were very friendly but the one thing we asked their help with (booking tickets for the Vatican) they couldn't do and directed us towards the hotel computers which were very slow and frustrating - we had to abandon attempts on the first evening and try very early the next morning. So, again, not 5 star on that front either. The breakfasts were good - not bad, not amazing. The location was good although I might recommend somewhere more in the middle of all the attractions if you are planning to walk around Rome which is entirely possible and probably recommended.
