“Quite happy at Hotel Planet”

We stayed at The Hotel Planet in Rome for 4 nights in November. We arrived in the evening and the staff were charming to us. The 2 of us managed to fit into the lift with our suitcases without a problem. Yes it was small but who worries about the lift!

Our room was clean, there was lots of hot water and the room was tidied every day. We were told that there was a discount for cash so we took up that option. We were not hassled to pay and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

It was in a good location for sightseeing. We were careful around the station at night but you get that anywhere. If you want a cheap hotel in central Rome then I would suggest you stay here. If you want something flash, look elsewhere.

“False Representation”

I strongly suggest you forget this bogus Hotel - known as the Planet ROME and THE Sidney.

We stayed in over 20 hotels in 46 days and this was the only one with two (2) folding metal beds pushed together.

The air conditioning in the net advertising was turned off from the 15th September my wife and I both suffer from asthma and suffered greatly. This was a lie as they were telling other people it was a "heater only" when it was a reverse cycle, because on one night they gave us the controller.

The Breakfast was non-existent they did not have a breakfast room it was converted to a store room and we were given a docket and told to go around the corner into a shop in Via Marsalla where we received a HOT orange juice and a croissant, standing UP. We ended up buying our breakfast elsewhere.

The Planet and the Sidney Hotels are pensionies and blatantly lie on the net through their agents as to your face. The morning after we checked-in there was a customer revolt in the foyer with 3 different couples like us complaining about the lies we had been told. After booking ahead by 8-12 weeks) We were told if we did not like it go elsewhere, High season in Rome there was nothing available. On our second visit we arrived at 10pm after returning from Capri we were victims of emotional blackmail gun held at our head.

Without agreement from us we were moved to the Sidney hotel up around the corner, same deal NO air-conditioning, and NO PHONE and I needed to do business with Australia at night, no receptionist AT ALL, and the noise from the court yard was overbearing. The shower was broken and there was no shower screen or curtain and the water went everywhere. Towels TAKE your own we would not dry the dog with theirs.

We were asked for CASH money up-front prior to going to the room. I was committed to pay by MASTERCARD but they were into a Tax Dodge. On our second visit we paid by MasterCard, after being confronted like thieves in the middle of the night to settle our account. We wanted out but had nowhere else to go, funny thing was we never saw the same staff member twice in 6 days, the left hand did not know what the right hand was doing.

“Like in a jail !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2005

Date = April 2005

This hotel was simply a nightmare for our stay in Rome. I was with friends, we are young and not particulary hard to please. But too much is too much...

Rooms are very small, noisy and really dirty. Air conditionned was not working in our room (and nobody knows why). This place is not well organized and people working there not friendly at all. I think they just don't care about tourists. The breakfast was composed by a simple cup of coffee (in fact this was a warm liquid... I hope it was coffee) and a single bread piece with butter and jam. It looked like a jail breakfast (and you have to call at least twice the reception to obtain it).

I think that for this price we had deserved much more better. This hotel is just a shame and please never go there.

Last funny think: you are charged 10Euros/day if you pay by Credit Card! We were not informed about it when booking.

Otherwise Rome is a nice city and I hope I will go there again.

Cheers and enjoy your stay in Rome, but avoid those ugly low cost ** hotels close to Termini railway station.

“Not a great place to stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2005

Bad hotel, pure and simple. We reserved a single room for 2 adults, but were initially put in a family room (all this meant was that there was an extra bed in the room). We then had to pack up and move after the first night, and were put in a double room that was about as noisy as it gets. Amazingly, the staff told us that this 2nd room was much quieter than our first...

To top it off, they tried to stick us with a 40 Euro charge upon checking out, to pay the difference for not staying in a single room. We refused to pay, since we booked a single and it was not up to us what room we were put in.

Rooms were dirty, the lift is the size of a small shower, and its on the 5th floor. The only redeeming quality of this place is its proximity to the train station.

Stay away, trust me.

“This hotel is terrible! Do not stay here!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2004

The reception staff were extremely rude and unfriendly. The rooms were not very clean, my mattress sloped sideways, the bathroom fittings were broken (including shower head, plug in the basin, and pipe fittings). The toilet didn't flush properly. And, it was extremely noisy - from both the street outside and the reception area.
It is extremely close to the Station Termini, but the area is not a good one, you should be extremely careful walking back at night. The street was filthy and littered with broken glass.
The room did include breakfast which was delivered to you room. You were required to call the reception to order whichever hot drink you wanted. Breakfast consisted of the hot drink, one bread roll, one pack of butter, and one pack of jam - per person.
We were obliged to stay 2 nights as we had made our reservation in advance, however we found another hotel for the remaining nights. In the same price range, near San Pietro (extremely well-serviced by metro and bus lines) and a completely different class of hotel! (after staying at Hotel Planet we felt like our new hotel was 5* (although it was also rated as 2*).
As an additional warning - this is part of a group that appears to operate at least 3 hotels in Rome - we understood them to all be at the same standard. Hotel Blu is one of them.
