Magnificent structure, outstanding locstion,magnificant room, staff super, eat elsewhere!!

If you want to experience LUXURIOUS, this is the hotel for it! The best hotel I've stayed in my entire life. The details that they put in to make this hotel a palace is overwhelming. I have nothing but WOW for the room especially the wallpapers and the furniture. It was snowing for the 1st time since 2005 when we got here; and the concierge was helpful with information that we need to know. The reception, OMG! The same person who checked us in, showed us to our room. Now that's what you call 'going the extra mile' and he remembered us when I called reception the next day. A truly wonderful experience and the best service of all eventhough our tours were cancelled due to the weather condition (bloody snow!), the hotel made our trip to Rome a truly unforgettable time of our life. Old and seedy? Threadbare carpets? Can hardly believe the review below, what nonsense! The Excelsior is a beautiful hotel. We stayed just after Christmas for four nights and had a simply wonderful stay. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and our room was huge (not so easy to find in Rome), elegant and comfortable. The hotel is really well placed on the Via Veneto and is within easy walking distance of the main sights. Our young son loved the pool ... sauna and steam room all working fine while we were there. Perhaps the spa could do with a facelift but it certainly didn't detract from our enjoyment.

If brand spanking new is a prerequisite go stay in a furniture showroom. The Excelsior will not disappoint those with an appreciation of the finer things in life.

In my opinion this is the best hotel in Rome. The decor is spectacular, the rooms large, the location central, and the bar terrific. Stayed here several times over the past 25 years and it is always a pleasure to return.
