“Bad & Sad”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

We booked this hotel with a very reasonably priced flight & hotel deal and hoped for the best when we saw the hotel website.
Upon arrival we were greeted in a very unfriendly manner. Instead of "hello, ciao, whatever..." the concierge just yelled "Austria???" and pointed to the room were we were to drop our luggage - well, it was afternoon and our rooms were not ready. When asked when our room would be ready, the concierge answered "don't know, problem". When I started to call the travel agency, we were suddenly told the room would be ready within 1 hour. Our room was big but rather run down - veneer and wallpaper peeling, stains on carpets, bath had a moldy smell. At least the air condition was working and the water pressure was ok. Our friends ended up with rooms in the same condition, but substantially smaller. I think the Hotel is 30 years past it's prime and nothing has been done since. Breakfast was not good, coffee was instant brew, scrambled eggs tasted of plastic. We found a nice bar across the street and had breakfast there. Bus and subway around the corner at least.

“Thats old Italy for you”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011

I stayed at regent last year while Contiki'ing it around Italy. this was the first stop of the tour and first stop in Italy ever. This is my family town, and boy was i surprised, but it was built a while ago and unless you stay in a top notch place, all of italy is kinds like this. well other hotels, bathrooms in cafe's and stuff like that. All these pictures bring back sooo many memories, especially the broken hair dryer one!! I think that was my room as well!!

So here is the low down: your not getting hilton or ceaser's palace here. for the night you will spend sleeping, its actually not that bad. yes the rooms are a bit dated, but everyting in italy is. the one thing is that there are no bed bugs,, now that would really bite! yes the paint is chipping and wall paper might be peeling, but its old.

breakfast in the morning is actually quite good, but your in italy, everything is!! it was quite clean and the food was very fresh.

staff is pretty quiet. if your italian they are more outgoing with you, i guess that was a bonus for me. but they tend to anything you need as wel as caling a cab for you or what not.

the metro is steps away. its one of the brightsides to this hotel becuase the train ride is cheap and literally 2 mins away from the main city and about 25 ish mins (train changing incld) to the colusieum.

there are are also a few small shops on the same street like little bakery to grab a mortadella paninno, a cafe to grab un espresso e uno biscotti, as well as a mini bar called 'carrots'.

to be honest, for what you pay, which isnt much a night, i think $90 (well last year at least), its not bad considering its other perks. yes beds are a bit hard but overall, its ok. its not dirty, just outdated and they dont want to re-glue things, so what! you are not sleeping in filth.
there is a full length mirror in the closet. I realized it when i was just leaving. as well, you need to leave a key in the ac unit constantly so make sure you get 2.

“What a dump!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

The room was dirty, we had pigeons roosting by our window so we couldn't open it at night to get some air because the ac didn't work. The beds were old and needed to be replaced. Rome was great but this place was a dive.

“Great as a basic hotel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

A friend and I stayed here twice in June, and we were pretty happy with it. Basic rooms, wifi available (for a price) and relatively quiet rooms. We were pleased with both our rooms, however we were lucky, because when we visited some other friends rooms - there's weren't as good as ours - with the wifi dropping out, noises at night etc.

The location isn't the best, however it's only a few steps away from a train station with a direct line to Via Del Corso - which is a brilliant shopping strip.

We recommend the bar "Carrot" around the corner for a drink or dinner, we frequented it quite a few times and is worth the trip!

Oh, and we'd avoid the restaurant in the hotel.

“We will definitely not be back during Summer!”

While the stay in the hotel was not altogether unpleasant with a large room, the air conditioning was almost non-existent. I complained during all my 5 days of stay with temperatures of 30 degrees+ regarding the AC not working. It may have worked for a few hours during the entire 5 days! While the reception did their best to fix the problem, there was not much they could do since it was a mechanical issue - and the technician never turned up. They did not even provide a FAN!!
Also the mattresses were horrible and uneven and the springs made a lot of noise!

Among the receptionists, Donna was the most helpful and spoke excellent English. While the breakfast was good it got boring due to repetition of the same dishes.
