As a first-time visitor to Rome, I was looking forward to staying at a four-star hotel at the start and end of my tour, but I found the Regent to be an overall disappointment. Whilst my room was larger than the average in Europe, the location was frustrating in such a lively city. Nearby Euclide station is only serviced approximately ever half-hour by grafitti-ridden trains (as a solo traveller I was very nervous and reluctant to explore before my tour) meaning that valuable exploration time is wasted nervously awaiting the train and that day excursions are cut short with the last train running around 10:30pm.
The hotel itself has mixed service - the in-house restaurant was shocking. I was the only customer and the waiter took nearly 15 minutes to perform any task (bringing water, serving food, clearing plate, bringing the bill, getting change...) so that it took nearly an hour and a half for one plate of food from start to finish. Similarly, some of the food served in the dining room for groups was not fit to serve to animals, with disgustingly greasy "meat" and vegetables clearly drowning in the same fat. Breakfast was fine though. The reception staff don't have the best attitude generally, but were helpful when my airport transfer was late in offering advice and alternative options.
I was also disappointed in the ensuite, where the shower tap head came off in my hand and the door wouldn't open all the way.
Whilst most of these things were tolerable, it certainly did not live up to my expectations, and in such a vibrant city as Rome, I am sure that there are far better offerings out there.
