“Excellent value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

It is very nice hotel in quit neighborhood nearby Vatican City. Cipro metro station is located in a 5 minutes walk from the hotel which provides a good accessibility to all mayor attractions in Rome.
Rooms are big enough, clean with not large but functional bathroom. Breakfast was tasteful with the best hotel coffee ever.
The receptionists and other stuff were helpful, pleasant and discrete.
In conclusion, this hotel could be our choice for some next visit to this magnificent city.

Room Tip: Pick a fourth floor room.

“Great location near the Vatican, quiet street, free breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Nova Domus is on a small side street near the Vatican. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the Cipro underground station, and about the same to the Vatican. The location, to me, is really good - it's just outside the really touristy areas right next to the Vatican, but still really close. You can park on the street for free here as well. There is an ice cream place across the street, and a couple of good restaurants (that are all locals) within a few minutes walk. There is also a huge indoor market about a 5 minute walk away, where you can buy just about anything. This is also a place for locals.
The hotel itself - reception is friendly. A lot of places in Italy, you won't find too many English speakers, so keep that in mind. There is a bar and small lounge on the first floor, and drinks are pretty cheap. The rooms themselves are not bad - about midrange for a European "4-star" hotel. Even the "queen" room is just 2 twin beds pushed together, unless you get lucky. But it's pretty clean, and bathroom is pretty good. Probably the best part is free breakfast - one of the better ones I've had in Europe. There's an actual restaurant, and a terrace with a nice view if you want to sit outdoors. The food available is pretty decent, better than usual for free breakfast in Europe. The elevators all work consistently (another thing that can be spotty in Europe), and the wifi was not bad. Overall, if you're planning to visit the Vatican, I would definitely recommend this hotel. Keep in mind that Rome is a very spread out city, so major attractions are not necessarily near each other at all.

“Friendly reception but facilities let it down.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

My daughters and I stayed here for 4 nights between Christmas and new year.

The staff on reception were friendly and helpfully the majority of the time, unlike the restaurant manager who could do with a refresher course at charm school!

The first room we had was next to the lift which was very noisy, keeping us awake half the night. The receptionist changed us to an upgraded room as soon as we complained with no fuss at all.

The second room was quieter but rather worn with stains on the carpet, half the tv channels didn't work, and the safe was faulty. We reported this but it wasn't fixed. The carpet could also have been hoovered more thoroughly. Also, the mini bar wasn't stocked with anything, but this suited us as it meant we could fill it with our own drinks etc.

The shower room was nice with marble tiles / sink and the shower had plenty of power. There was also a bidet.

The hotel was advertised as having a restaurant and bar. The bar was closed for the duration of our stay, and the restaurant was only open for breakfast.

The breakfast was quite limited, the hot drinks were particularly poor as they came from a vending machine using powdered milk.

The hotel is in a good location for the Vatican and close to two metro stations so you can be in the centre of Rome in half an hour. There is also a good range of restaurants on the nearby streets to choose from.

If you choose to get a taxi from the train terminus it should only cost around €15. We were overcharged on arrival and paid €38 so be ready to negotiate with the driver.

“Wonderful people but hotel needs help”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

The hotel in and of itself is fine. Clean, fairly good location (1/2 mile to Vatican) and has great FREE breakfast. Staff are wonderful but the hotel has some serious shortcomings. You cannot get a cup of coffee until 7 a.m. That's what time the restaurant opens and they are inflexible about opening up early. There is no place around to get a coffee prior to that because we checked. We stayed in two different rooms because we left and took a two-day trip to Venice. The phone didn't work in the first room, the TV was not working very well and the walls are thin. You can hear your neighbours. The second room had no electrical plug in the bathroom - just wires coming out of the wall :-( The boiler had blown and we had no hot water for two days. The rooms are perfectly adequate in size, not like USA, but okay. The staff was terrific and very helpful regarding everything. The location isn't great but not bad. We ate at three different restaurants within the neighbourhood which all were good.

Room Tip: The second room we stayed in on the third floor had been upgraded with granite etc. in bathroom.

“Beautiful Rome”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

I would travel to Rome Solo- this is a beautiful hotel close to the metro.

Not a choice of hotel I would have expected Travel Sphere/ Page & Moy to chose, especially as upon arrival the group of 25+ travellers were made to walk half a mile up the road with their luggage to get to the hotel when the bus driver could have dropped us at the top end of the hotel.

Comfortable rooms, food not to return for at this hotel- enough places in the vicinity to eat rather than be served overcooked food.

Again Travel Sphere rep could have done more but he was not too bothered. All the paid excursions were amazing as were the local tour reps- something of a lesson for a corporate like Travel Sphere to reflect on as I will certainly not return to book a holiday with them.
