“Charming location in Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We stayed at this hotel in May 2011 and we loved the location !!! It's like living with the locals, with great small restaurants, coffee shops, souvenir shops, churches to visit, and of course, tons of gelatos :). We also enjoyed some asian restaurants nearby if you needed a change to eat. Our room is spacious, nice and clean. Bathroom is also spacious but I think the tile can be upgraded or cleaned better but otherwise clean. As far as I remember, there's one day the we didn't have a hot water. Breakfast is okay;some days are better than the other but the staff in the kitchen was nice and pleasant. I agree with the other reviewers that the front desk are helpful but they are cheerful at all!!!!!! I guess thats just their personality ! Wi-fi is extra cost and they don't have any english channels so bring your DVD's if you like to be entertained. Also, the train station is not closeby but we loved to walk and explore the area so we walked to everything from this hotel. Even to the Vatican, St.Peter's Basilica, etc.
Price is average ! Overall, we still enjoyed our stay here and will recommend this hotel to other friends.

“Great spot with unhappy staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We took the bus from termini station got off just across the river and walked. It wasn't so bad. We finally found the hotel behind another building. The desk person didn't even smile when we came in (although I found most of the folks in Rome don't smile much....must be all those darned tourists :P ). So we get to our room and at first I thought "oh no...it's so small"....then when we opened up the large windows we actually had a great view of the back of the hotel overlooking an ancient wall and lots of trees. So that made up for the smallness. And it was very quiet! It was an old nunnery after all...and I think half the building still is...as I could see the nuns cleaning stuff during the day from my window. Breakfast wasn't much. Get there early because the staff doesn't refill the plates. When it's gone...it's gone. Very unattentive breakfast staff. We stayed 3 nights here....the restaurants and the whole neighborhood was fantastic. Great location! When checking out the unhappy desk clerk charged me as if I hadn't paid for the room already on the internet. So I got out my computer printout of the paid receipt and showed it to him and became even more unhappy. Finally he came up with the correct amount. No apology for his rudeness when I said he had the number wrong from the beginning (and I was nice about it too). So in the end, I like the location and the place was okay, but next time I will find another hotel. The maid was the only person who smiled at us the entire 3 days!

Room Tip: Ask for one in the back so you get a quiet view.

“Casa San Giuseppe off season”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

My husband and I went to Rome at the end of January and stayed in Casa San Giuseppe. We were very pleased generally. The room was quiet, large enough and clean, the bathroom lovely. Staff doing breakfasts etc were very friendly and helpful. Staff in reception were mostly friendly - not all of them. The location is super - walking distance over the river from the Pantheon, market etc, easy walking around Trastevere, good busses.
On the less than positive side, I'd say the reception staff could be a bit better informed or more prepared to answer typical tourist questions, a little more forthcoming, and perhaps a bit better English (re tourists from English-speaking countries and Scandinavia). More international TV channels would be nice - but not necessary. Jan Teeland

“Casa san Giuseppe”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

I went to Rome on New year's eve with my friends. The rooms were clean and big enough, the hotel was near to the main attractions but, it was quite far from the railway station (Termini). The staff was very kind and available, but, the breakfast was not as big as described in their website and there wasn't any wifi connection, just a personal computer in the hall.
Prices maybe too high for the services given.

“Jewel of Rome & Not expensive”

This hotel is a rare jewel set in beautiful Trastevere. A room facing the courtyard is best although facing the street is a beautiful experience too. The rooms are clean and the bathrooms spacious. The location is wonderful with a nearby coffee shop that sells the best take out cappuccinos I have ever had - the pastries are to die for. This hotel is located on the famous "laundry" street you often see in photos. What an experience to be on this street in this hotel in Trastevere! It was once run by nuns who now live in a convent adjacent to the property. Truly a place to stay if you want to experience old Rome. Room rates are good - taxi service to and from the hotel can be arranged by staff. I like this pace a lot.

Room Tip: All rooms are good but quiet rooms face the courtyard while street view rooms allow you to enjoy the...
