“Perfect choice for stay in rome!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

I had done much research into our hotel choice as we had a relatively small budget. Most hotels were very expensive and the price of this seemed too good to be true. We booked our room in hotel filippo which is owned by same people. We went to filippo but were brought down the street to hotel simone which was even closer to termini. The lady who welcomed us was so nice and then we saw our room. It was perfect. Clean, well laid out and very comfortable. There was a very good free wifi. The tv had hundreds of satellite channels but not too many english channels. Managed to find few on last night. If I could stay in a hotel like this in every city break we have I would be very happy.

It is a bit of a odd setup if you are used to traditional hotels. It is basically a large apartment or two divided up into rooms. It works very well though. They were on the second floor of a old traditional apartment block. All very traditional building, vey secure and nice clean common area.

I think a previous review of this or one of the other hotels said that the noise of the bin trucks kept them awake. If that is all they can give out about then that's ok. We heard a bin truck last night on our last night, at about 11. It was gone after about a minute.

Another previous review said they could have got a better hotel in better location for same money. Location here is perfect. It is 5 minute walk from where all the tour buses go from. 2 minutes from the train station where all the links to the airports go from. Also we happened to bump into neighbours of my parents who were in Rome too and they had a nightmare of a hotel on the same street. It was all glamorous in the communal areas then their room was disgusting with no sockets etc!!!

You get a voucher for breakfast each day which is in a coffee shop around the corner. Lovely coffee and pastries and more than adequate to start the day!!!

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. It was a lovely little retreat in a busy bustling historic city. If you want to sit in a hotel room watching tv and have room service this is not for you. If you want a beautiful room in nice building in a nice safe area convenient for seeing the sights this is perfect! I have marked low on fitness centre and room service because they don't have any! They do have a mini bar which is reasonably priced but it also has lots of spare room in fridge for your own snacks, drinks etc!

And another note, check all your restaurant bills. We caught them out in a few places adding extras onto the bill!!!

Note to owners of hotel simone, I was in room 301 From 19th - 23rd September 2011 and just wanted to thank you for a lovely stay in Rome this week. you have a lovely hotel and I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone.

Regards
Owen

Room Tip: Ask for hotel simone rather than hotel filippo. Hotel filippo seemed to be closer to a bar which had...

“Comfortable and Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2011

It's around 5 - 8 minutes walk from the train station (Rome Termini). We took some time to find the Hotel as it was nestled in a residential building and didn't look like a Hotel at all. Only after ringing a bell and speaking through a microphone, we were allowed to enter the building.

The room was very neat and tidy. The bathroom, the linen, etc. everything was in order. We were given good service and our requirements were met - No chance to complain!

Breakfast is not provided in the Hotel but we were given coupons of a cafe called Convoglia which is next to the station and a very good place.

The owners were very helpful and readily available. Overall an excellent stay!

Room Tip: Short walk from the Termini Station

“Stay elsewhere, poor value”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2011

For the price we paid we could have gotten a better hotel in a better location, poor value.
The room itself is average at best. The beds weren't very comfortable. Even with the curtain in the bathroom down you can still see people in the bathroom through the inch on either side that doesn't cover the window. There is not someone available 24hours, it is more like an apartment in the service respect.

The upside is that we got free bottled water, and the location is close to the train station and main bus stop.

The biggest downside to this hotel is the location is not a safe one, especially for women traveling alone. The street this hotel is down is pitch black at night, no street lights whatsoever, and even during the day the neighborhood looks a little unsafe. I was awoken one night at about 3am to a fight outside my window, very scary.

I definitely would look elsewhere for a hotel (somewhere a little safer, and a little closer to the attractions)

“Wouldn't bother looking elsewhere next time.”

This hotel appears to be managed by the same owners as Hotel Filippo, just along the road, and if you look on Tripadvisor for that hotel you will see that often guests are taken to Hotel Simone instead - we were. The hotel has its own website though and deserves a review.
We spent hours looking for a reasonably priced, clean hotel on the internet and if we return to Rome at least we won't have to repeat this - we would look no further than Hotel Simone. The lady who met us on arrival at Filippo walked us to Simone and spoke perfect English and was extremely friendly. The hotel, like in many reviews of Rome hotels, is not immediately obvious from the street as it is behind huge wooden doors and on the second floor. The number is clearly marked on the wall outside though and is not easy to miss.
There is an old fashioned lift to the second floor but it is perfectly serviceable. A coded entry gives access to the hotel, which looks like it has 6/7 rooms. Our room was presumably similar to the others and the first impression was of cleanliness - throughout our stay it was spotlessly clean on our return at night. The room contained a comfortable king bed, two chairs and a dresser on a polished wooden floor. The room was fully air conditioned (easily adjustable) and there was a flat screen satellite tv (limited channels for us but had BBC World News). There was also a mini bar, which was reasonably priced for Rome - we didn't use it but it was good for cooling the two bottles of complimentary water each day. The toilet/shower was behind a glass wall, with modesty blind if required, and consisted of a toilet, bidet, sink and shower. The shower was large - I am 6'5'' and had plenty of room. Liquid soap and shampoo were provided, with clean towels daily.
Situated one street away from Termini railway station we found the location to be excellent for commuting by foot, metro, bus or train - we walked almost everywhere. Breakfast was served in a cafe bar/restaurant in the station - we had coffee and whichever type of croissant you wished - a good start to the day - in a very clean place, with pleasant staff.
Access to the hotel was anytime - we were provided with a key to the door onto the street, a four digit code for the hotel door and a key for the room. It all worked well. There was also a coded safe box in the room, which we took advantage of.
Like other reviews of Rome I have read, we found the Termini area safe, but on first arrival it is understandable why people are not so sure. We never experienced any problems in this multicutlural area.
We paid Euro 384 for 4 nights during the English holiday period, which we thought was reasonable compared to some hotels we checked, and this hotel is fully recommended for the traveller who hasn't a big budget but wants somewhere safe, secure and clean. We would look no further next time.
We took the opportunity to have a day outside Rome and took the train from the Ostiense railway station to Bracciano (extremely cheap - about Euro 5 for two, each way) - a beautiful small, historic, castled town on the shores of Lake Bracciano - well worth a visit if you have time and the weather is good.
