“A gem in Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

I stayed by myself at Mecenate rooms for one night. Mecenate is a gem. The owners Camilla and Marta (mother and daughter) are wonderful, efficient, friendly and basically bent-over backwards to make my stay the best. The rooms are clean, in good shape and very large (relative to European standards, although smallish compared to the United States). The place is very nice and it was very cheap (75 euros). The location is very convenient: a few steps to the Colosseum and next to a nice park with playgrounds for families. It's very easy to reach by metro, tram and buses. I actually ended up walking to Termini station, which was closer in reality than it seemed on the map. The building seems to be newly renovated. The owners let me get in my room at 7 am (long before check in) and I was allowed to leave my room late in the afternoon (long before check out). This has been by far the best place I've stayed in Rome (this was my fourth visit), and with the exception of my experiences, the best in the world (much better than the places I've stayed in Paris and New York, for a fourth of the price). Some folks complain about the noise, but relative to other places in Rome, this place is very quiet. Besides, if you're strongly bothered by noise, don't come to Rome (or Italy for that matter). Lastly, my parents stayed there and they loved it (and they're quite an old cranky couple). I look forward to coming back with wife and children.

Room Tip: The Orazio room is very big (it's at the corner)

“Perfect stay for a weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

For the small amount of money the value is really high, 2 minute walk from Colluseum and very close to some good restaurants and the metro aswell .

Camilla is a great host and delivered everytime we hade questions or issiues that needed to be solved.

The rooms were nice with AC, wifi and daily cleaning.

The cleaning of the roads outside at midnight was a bit annoying but it's not a issue to be honest.

“Great location, but noisy..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

Mecenate Rooms is very well situated, a short walk from the Roman Forum and Colesseum, as well as from the Metro lines (A and B). Breakfast is served in true Italian style in a cafe across the road and there are lovely restaurants and grocery stores just up the road. The room is unfortunately VERY noisy, (there is a scooter parking area directly outside the window) and we weren’t able to sleep without earplugs. Our room was spacious, with free wifi and a well functioning air-con. We had some small problems with our room (the bath plug, leaking shower), which took quite a while to sort out, and only saw our hosts twice very briefly in our five day stay. This really is a ‘lock up and go’ style accommodation and wouldn’t really suit you if you were looking for regular assistance and contact with the hosts. I would also recommend getting the taxi that can be arranged for you to get to the B&B from the airport. (Our taxi driver arrived an hour late without any explanation, which was tricky with this being our first visit to Italy). All and all a good stay (after we got the earplugs :) ).

“Great location to see the sights and accommodating staff...loved it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

This accommodation with it's four rooms, has a laid back atmosphere feel and is nestled in a quiet neighborhood and conveniently located in order to see all the wonderful sights of Rome. The staff was very helpful with dinner suggestions and transportation needs. The room was very roomy and comfortable and the air conditioner worked fabulously! The only drawback to the room was the tub/shower...because of poor design it was tricky to take a shower and not get water all over the floor...we had the Virgilio room, so inquire about the shower situation for the other rooms before picking this one. Note..if you are a high maintenance traveler, this is not a recommendation for you...however, if you love to spend time sightseeing and experiencing Rome as we did, coming back to our room felt like a comfortable, spacious apartment...and let me emulate how wonderful and warm the staff was and we could call Marta or Camilla day or night with questions or concerns. We highly recommend you to ask the staff to arrange your transportation to and from the airport, it was a necessity and worked out wonderfully for us. The best part about this accommodation is the fact that you can come and go with no hassle. You will have a key to the main building and a card key to the entrance to the foyer to your room, so you feel very secure and private.

“Lovely place to stay in Rome”

This B&B is in a great location, especially if you enjoy walking. The Colosseum is literally a 5 minute walk away. Other famous sights are a bit further afield, but we used a combination of walking and the metro to get around (metro stops for both lines A and B are 10-15 mins walk). This is a pleasant residential neighbourhood of Rome, and there are a number of excellent restaurants within walking distance (especially Trattoria Monti - this place deserves its accolades, we ate there twice!)

The lovely young ladies who run the B&B were so helpful during our stay. They gave us excellent restaurant recommendations and helped us find a self-service laundromat - not many of these in Rome, but there is one near the main train station.

The room was a good size, felt very homely. Breakfast was at the local cafe across the street - coffee and pastry - we found the small breakfast was all we needed after eating out each night. Mecenate Rooms is very affordable (especially by Rome standards) and I felt we got really good value for money staying here. Also had free wifi.
