We used Trip advisor and www.tripuptravel.weebly.com to find accomodation, and TA for this B&B for our 4 night trip to Rome. Usually if accommodation has average feedback and I take a chance and book, I usually come away smiling as the place was fine, or if it has outstanding feedback, the accommodation lives up to the hype! Domus Cascilla doesn't follow this pattern at all. It has great feedback but doesn't live up to it at all. We booked a double room and got the location instructions from Google and the website, and to say it was difficult to find was an understatement! It’s the 6th floor of a residential apartment block on a road which is not named! There is no signage at all, and to say that it is a short distance from Termini is open to speculations - it’s 2.8KM! Upon our arrival we were happy to see a doorman there who called the B&B and took us upstairs and got us settled... no sign of staff or the owner anywhere - we found out that this was due to reception closing at 3pm (unadvertised). Oh yes and by the way the B&B is not on the road, you have to walk through a courtyard to a rickety old lift that takes you to the 6th floor. Ok ok I know it sounds like I am picking fault with everything, but until now I was ok with the majority of things - I have a sense of adventure and know I hadn’t paid Ritz prices. However it just kept getting worse and worse. The lift was out for 2 days which meant we had to climb 6 flights of stairs to the accommodation, we had a blackout for an entire evening where we had no light at all!, the breakfast kept changing although we ordered the same - by the way a few bits of cold crunchy toast, and some packaged crackers doesn`t constitute a continental breakfast. The shower dripped during the night, the TV remotes were archaic, and the walls are very thin so we could hear the room across from us every morning and evening (which made sleeping in very difficult). To add insult to injury we also came back one evening to find the some keys still in our door! Now that is dangerous... and unforgivable if anyone had wanted too they had full access to our room. We found the one lady on reception to be very pleasant, with a very nice smile, and very polite. It’s just we were not asked if we needed any help, or given any advice on what to do where to go etc... I think the language barrier was very significant here - which again is not her fault! (We should know more Italian). She is the only reason I have put this as Average, otherise it would've got a poor rating! The plus sides were it wasn’t stupidly expensive but that is due to the proximity to central Rome, of which it’s a good distance from. The coliseum is about 1-1.5km or a 10-15 minute walk. There is a cheap supermarket on the way from the accommodation to the coliseum of which I thoroughly recommend as it’s great for stocking up on drinks, wine and a few nibbles to keep Rome’s prices down! The free Wi-Fi gave us the opportunity to see events going on in the city and check e-mail etc... It was also clean All in all we have enjoyed Rome, but am disappointed with the accommodation - I think we could`ve got more for our money although know Rome is expensive at the best of times.
