“$103.46/night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

Rome is expensive - finding the Mocenigo Vatican Suites was perfect. Free sweet or salty breakfast included (way too much for me and my teenage grandson to eat) and is served from 0800-1000; we did request an 0700 breakfast one morning which was accommodated. Since we stayed at least three nights, they provided free transportation from the airport. Basil was at the suites when we arrived around noon and let us check in early even though we hit the streets as soon as we put our backpacks into Room #2 - the Giotto Room. The suites are located in a quiet residential neighborhood close to the Cipro Metro station which is a hop, skip and jump from the Vatican Museums. One bottle of mineral water and one bottle of regular water was free everyday. The mini-fridge was nice and the free self-programmable safe was beneficial. I would have given them an excellent, but no English speaking TV stations were available out of over a hundred available stations. I would stay here again as the location, price and room greatly exceeded our expectations.

“Restful Comfort”

I stayed at this hotel from May 22 until June 9 and would recommend it to anyone I know. I liked very much that it was a small, quiet retreat from the noise and congestion that is Rome. After a day of being out and foot weary I enjoyed returning to what felt like a seclusive hotel. I stayed in the Raphael Suite and found it large enough for my needs and the bathroom to be comfortable. The desk clerk prepared my breakfast every morning at the time that I had specified and this was often subject to change depending on my schedule. I always had more than I could eat even with my dietary restrictions that the hotel took special care to accommodate. The flowers that were ordered for my arrival and prepared by the staff were fabulous and I enjoyed them for days. I was also greeted with a bottle of champagne that the staff brought to my room upon my arrival. The choice of location for me had been based on a group staying in a nearby hotel and I am confident that I had by far the better hotel. It was for me prime location meaning that I could easily venture out on my own to the Vatican without resorting to the rather scary subway.

“Comfortable stay, friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2011

PROS:
Rooms are clean, comfortable, modern, and spacious
Staff is very nice, likable, hospitable, helpful
Amenities included A/C, private bathroom, hairdryer, safe, refrigerator (w/ free bottled water), daily breakfast brought to room (the breakfast is huge), cable tv, free wifi (and all of the advertised amenities functioned properly unlike another hotel we stayed at were NONE of them worked)
Near Cipro metro station
Located very close to Vatican Museum entrance (2-3 blocks)
Great value, ~115 euros
Very quiet and peaceful
Close to restaurants, grocery store, small shops

CONS:
Located on the west side of the Tiber and is farther from some of the main attractions like Colosseum, Pantheon, etc
Possible con for those looking for more nightlife. This is located in a quiet neighborhood.

“Great expectations greatly disappointed”

Where to start? This is no bed and breakfast - it is actually a serviced flat with 5 rooms in an apartment building. The place was converted from one apartment and all the rooms open onto a central corridor. Sound isolation is really poor. There are no carpets anywhere so the sound carries. There is a hell of lot of noise coming from the corridor (especially in the mornings) - everyone could hear everything going on in the place, leaving us with a sense of having no privacy whatsoever. We never really felt comfortable in the place even for a few minutes. Each morning we were woken up early by the staff making breakfast, receiving phone calls and talking and just shuffling about. This was no holiday for us. Despite complaining and asking them to try to be more quiet, the guy never managed - he was just unable to be quiet or gentle when managing his business. You could hear every spoon etc. being put on every breakfast tray from 7:30 or so, lots of banging and bumping. We never got a good night's sleep and returned home more tired than when we arrived. The breakfasts were awful - almost nothing and very poor quality. In the end we went to a nearby supermarket and got lovely things for breakfast for only a few Euros, so we wondered why they couldn't manage something like this themselves. The rooms were far smaller and less nice than we had anticipated from the pictures on the site, although they were comfortable in a basic sort of way. The only things to note on the more positive side were the location next to the Vatican, which was good and that there were lots of local shops in the neighbourhood. It was also relatively close to the metro and other public transport Overall, we paid way too much for this place - from the point of view of value for money, this place is a big loser.
