Imagine having the opportunity to visit Rome and staying in the apartment of a very caring, thoughtful friend who is away and has left you the key. Small details like several fans, extra blankets and hangers in the closet, flexibility for our extremely late evening arrival (many other apt. rentals just said "sorry") and a welcoming bottle of red wine. The staff was more than willing to help us make reservations at a restaurant and get soccer tickets.
The apartment was very clean, not fancy, but rich with character: high ceilings with hand painted tiles between the thick exposed wood beams. We stayed in Monte Brizano #5, it was lovely, spacious with a sitting/dining area in addition to the Bedroom, bath and kitchen. The galley kitchen was well stocked with cutlery, plates and bowls, pots and pans, fridge, stove top, toaster and a toaster oven; even a expresso french press!
But the location! Stay here if nothing else for the location. You step out the front door, look right and you can see the Spanish Steps. look left and see a bridge from which is one of the best views of St. Peter's Basilica in the city and to cross will land you at the doorstep of Castle St. Angelo. Just a few doors to the left is a great little Gelato and Canolli place. Look across the street and there is a bus stop from which the 87 bus will drop you off in front of the Colosseum and Roman Forum. We walked 5 minutes each morning to get coffee at Tazza across from the Pantheon. It was a dream.
I dare you to find this value for this price. We are already planning our return trip.
