Admittedly, the hotel is quite outside from the center of Rome and must be a pain to get there by taxi and busses, as the latter are indeed not very reliable. However, there is a train station very close to the hotel, via which it's very simple and cheap to get to the center.
The price of the triple room was very reasonable and actually lower than expected. The breakfast room as well as a little kitchen was accessible 24/7. So you could always have a tea during the day. The breakfast itself wasn't of high quality, e.g. there wasn't any sausage (but that's just the German in me speaking;), but satisfactory.
The atmosphere was nice and the family/staff very helpful and pleasant. Basic conversation in English was absolutely possible.
If you plan to spend most of the time downtown of Rome and not have to go back to the hotel several times during the day, Villa Rome is a very good option to consider.
