Before I really talk about my experience at this b&b, I would like to mention;
Great location (close to Termini, Colosseo, San Giovanni, Santa Maria Maggiore, Fori Imperiali, Metro Piazza V. Emanuele)
Very safe (on a lively street, I would say, half residential and half commercial with bars and restos, but B&B is very quiet)
Very clean (yes, very very clean..!!)
Extremely niiiiiiiiiice and more than anything HONEST owner!!!!!!!!!!
I have been to many different b&bs around Rome for my short trips. Most of the b&bs are quite similiar these days due to the competition in the market. But I need to say that it's quite hard to find a really nice owner with the "real hospitality" in their minds.
The owner of b&b Athena, Sig. Sandro (If I'm not wrong), is someone who cares more about your stay at his place than anything else. I had made several phone calls to other b&bs before I found this place. Since it was high season, they all asked for unreasonably high price just to take advantage of this season. But when I called Sig. Sandro, the price was very reasonable although it was a very busy period. (for a spacious room with spacious bathroom) Later, I had a chance to talk with him so I asked him why he did not raise the price higher. He told me that money is not everything that's needed. He puts his guests in the first place and want them to have a pleasant, satisfied stay in every way, also with the price. When most of other b&bs ask you to pay immediately upon your arrival, Sig. Sandro did not do that. So I was wondering why. He said that he trusted his guests. When guests decide to stay at his place, it is one way of showing their trust about his b&b and he wants his guests to feel trusted vice versa, which makes complete sense but difficult to do. I talked with Sig. Sandro quite a while and he really is a one of a kind out of many many many other b&b owners in Rome. He really cares about you rather than the amount of money you're paying for your room. That makes so much difference from all the other b&bs around.
He told me that all his guests are the regular ones who stay at his place for many many years. I totally understand why and I'm sure that I will be one of them.
