Il Colonnato is defintiely a good choice if you want to stay somewhere that's easily accessible and within walking distance of the centre of Rome. The owners are very nice and accommodating - always a good start. On arrival you call the owners and they meet you outside the B&B. They will arrange a taxi for you if you wish, but we chose to take the train and then a bus. They were very helpful making sure we knew bus numbers, what stop to get off at etc. The hotel itself does not have a sign, so that made it a little difficult to find, but the address was clearly marked on the building, and the owner was waiting outside for us, so she was easy to find.
Inside, the B&B is a converted apartment. The rooms are very clean and large enough for two people, but no more. The bathroom was very small, but it was again, very clean. It's on the 2nd floor and there is a lift, but this is very small. Breakfast was a typical Italian breakfast; cakes, croissant, all good, but there is a bar down the road (back towards the Vatican) that was preferable.
Location-wise, Il Colonnato was excellent and the rooms are quiet - there was no traffic noise at all. It is about a 30 min walk into the city, which was fantastic as it gave us time to walk off the fabulous dinners we had each night.
Overall, I would recommend this place. The owners are friendly, speak English (but if like me, you want to practice your Italian, they're happy to comply), it's a good location and the rooms are comfortable. It's nothing special, but for a weekend away, it was definitely a good choice.
