This hotel is actually more of an apartment place. It will be hard to find as there isn't any signage depiciting it as Chroma Hotel (you will have to rely on your taxi to be knowledgeable enough to find it). It is well situated in a nice neighborhood. Termini Station is about a 10 minute walk. You can walk to the Colosseaum, but it is a long walk (about 20 minutes). The neighborhood has plenty of restaurants, gelato stores and we found a grocery store near by as well.
The rooms are spacious for Europe standards and they are nicely decorated. We happen have the Emerald Room and I must say what I liked best was the bathroom. Although I didn't like the square shower head that sprays water all over you, so if you're trying to avoid wetting your hair, let's say it will be challenging. The beds are big, but the sofa bed is not comfortable, no matter what they tell you over the phone or the website. Once inside the actual Chroma hotel you will see it is very small. It's basically a foyer with the rooms around it as an L. Before you enter you have to climb a floor and the elevator is the smallest elevator I have ever seen. Only one suitcase will fit and you will fit if you are under 115 pounds. Do not expect to see a lobby; it's basically a desk with the person that takes care of everything (it's a one-man show) from checking you in to serving you the coffee in the morning. I think the same person cleans your room too. There is also a small porch where they serve you breakfast every morning. The breakfast selection was well varied (fruit, cereal, yogurt, pastries, milk, juice, coffee- no OJ though or hot items). I did wish they offered regular bread that you can toast in a toaster with butter, but what they had instead was already mini toasted bread that was individually packaged.
As far as the service goes, it was friendly and accommodating. Although, sometimes the attendant was not at his/her desk when we needed to talk to someone. FYI- their english was not that great. They understand the basics. If you like your privacy, do not get the Emerald room since the desk of attendant is right in front and he or she can hear everything that goes on in your room.
Do not expect to find any amenities/services that regular hotels offer; but honestly you won't miss them much if you will be out all day exploring Rome/Italy. Chroma basically offers a nice clean room with breakfast and internet ( you do have to pay extra for internet access). The only thing they provide is baggage storage, which sometimes means leaving your suitcases in the middle of the hallway where other patrons can have access to them. Make sure you take a lock with you.
