“A stylish oasis of calm, with minor drawbacks”

We stayed at Margutta 54 for three nights in a fairly warm April 2011. We had the Deluxe suite, and our friends were next-door in the Superior suite. These were the two ground floor rooms, and were extremely comfortable and spacious. I would agree with the previous reviewer who said the rooms lacked natural light. The Deluxe room was the darkest, as it's in the corner, but we quickly got used to this. Margutta 54 is in a pleasant courtyard in a built-up area, so you're not going to have much natural light.

The room was very well furnished, the large bed very comfortable and the powerful shower was quite fantastic. Via Margutta is a great little street, and there was an art fair there during our stay. It's a short walk to the Spagna metro station from Margutta 54, and there's a useful bakery/cafe just after you get onto Via Babuino from the bottom end of Via Margutta. We enjoyed a meal at Edy's, which was a couple of minutes' walk from the suites, and drinks at Il Margutta.

As there are only four suites, you shouldn't expect typical hotel service here. Although we had informed the hotel the time we expected to arrive, there was nobody there to meet us, and nowhere indoors for us to wait. We waited outside for about quarter of an hour, after which someone arrived to let us in. You do get free wi-fi, but it only worked in the sitting area of the Deluxe suite. They could do with a booster to increase the signal strength. We were also a little disappointed that we weren't provided with a free bottle of water every day. The room rate is high, and it would be a small and convenient gesture.

On our last morning, it became clear that people had arrived in the room upstairs. There was quite a lot of noise from their stomping around, and voices were clearly audible. So we were relieved that they hadn't been there for the majority of our stay.

On checking out, the butler agreed to take our luggage to our next hotel (as we were staying at Babuino 181, which is owned by the same company), which was very useful.

I've focused on some of the drawbacks, but we really enjoyed our stay here, and were very comfortable indeed. On returning to Rome, we'd consider staying here again, partly because it's such a fantastic area, and partly because the room is so comfortable.

“Excellent luxury hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2010 via mobile

Excellent location very central and easy to access all main areas. Hotel was beautiful, very clean and tidy and service friendly. We ordered the transport to and from the airport which made life easier as hotel is tucked away and would have been a nightmare to find!

“o problems recommending this hotel / suites”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2010

A fantastic hotel in an amazing location. Be prepare to look hard to find the hotel. Coming down the street from the Piazza del Popolo, you pass a restaurant on the right ( great food) the a few yards of the right are two high iron gates on the right of these is a call button with the words Marguta 54 suites. Push the button and be prepared o wait a few minutes while someone comes from up the street. The suite was fantastic approx 100 square metres, kitchen dining table seating area for 6+ all open plan and would feel good as a flat let alone a suite! There are no public areas or services although they will serve breakfast if needed (included in the price I think). There is also a supermarket 5 mins walk, ask for directions. All in all I have no problems recommending this hotel / suites

“No1 place to stay in Rome buy a mile, Fantastic.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2010

My husband surprised me for our recent honeymoon by booking us into Margutta 54 for 5 romantic days and it really couldn’t have been more perfect. Not only is the central location absolutely spot on in THE prettiest street in the whole of Rome, right by the Spanish Steps (enabling us to walk to all the sights without worrying about getting tubes or taxi’s), the actual apartments are absolutely stunning too.

From the outside, the ivy covered beautiful old building circles a stunning gravel courtyard that immediately makes you feel special, and once inside the apartment, that feeling continues. Fusing old with new design elements, Margutta 54 offers the ultimate haven for travellers, whatever the requirement. Peace and quiet…tick, massive comfortable bed…tick, plasma TV…tick, walk in wardrobes…tick, over sized sunken bath…tick, power shower…tick, coffee machine…tick, fluffy white towels and bathrobes…tick. The list goes on and on, we literally couldn’t fault it, in fact some days it seemed a same to go out at all!

The icing on the cake however is the service which is simply second to none. David, the concierge is just a total dream! Fluent in English and full of personality, he couldn’t do enough to help us enjoy our stay and he was worth his weight in gold.

Our experience of Margutta 54 was faultless and made our honeymoon unbelievably special. It’s a little gem!

Will be going back for sure, 6* service, absolutely fantastic.

“A Rome Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2010

On the occasion of my wife's birthday, we flew to Rome only to relax. We spent five nights at the Margutta, which met or exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed a wonderful, spacious well- appointed suite. Each of our requests was met immediately (e.g. ice, towels, blankets, directions). While this is not a traditional hotel in terms of services provided (no restaurant, or exercise facilities), it provides living space far beyond most top Rome hotels; it is wonderfully located; and by Rome, Paris or New York standards, is a private oasis, having only 4 suites facing a private courtyard, with no traffic. Excellent service is provided by David ( only 8am-3pm), but requests by phone are promptly served by staff from nearby properties. We had no concerns about safety, given adequate security devises. While some guests have reported being annoyed by the distant slight rumble from the subway, we would not even list this as a minor distraction. Two issues can be improved: Breakfast is not substantial, and is supplied by the hotel from a local cafe, and at somewhat inconvenient times. For the additional cost, this should be improved or eliminated as an option (local cafes and restaurants are abundant). Also, while the property is superior, the mattress is not. Rather thin bedding on a platform is provided, and while adequate, is not up to superior (especially USA) standards. Evenso, this is a truely wonderful property in which to relax, and from which to journey into all that Rome has to offer. We would definitely stay at the Margutta again.
