We spent 7 days in Rome, at the Il Passetto, which is located about a block from Vatican City and maybe two blocks from Saint Peter's Square. We brought our two girls, one is four and one is two. My wife is very concerned about cleanliness and inspected the place very closely, even for bedbugs. Good news: the place is immaculate, no bedbugs! Mainly because the hostess, Maggie, does an excellent job keeping the place clean, which from what we've heard is a rarity in Rome. Maggie is very friendly and does her best to make your stay very pleasant. She was very sweet to our kids and provided a "traditional" breakfast on time, every day. The breakfast included is a croissant, maybe with jam, coffee and orange juice, which after 7 days gets pretty old pretty quick. But we were told that's how it is in Rome. Other friends of ours staying in Rome said they got meat and cheese with their breakfasts, but maybe that's a rarity? Anyway, if you need a clean place to stay in a good location for a reasonable price, Il Pasetteo is the a great choice.... just don't count on any sort of real big breakfast. BTW, if you don't know it, food in Rome is very expensive compared to the rest of Italy. A little plate of spaghetti with a few tomatoes may run you 10-12 Euros in an average restaurant... bring plenty of money for food. Blue Ice is a great Gelateria that serves great Gelato just across the square, and the hotel really is very close to the USO. Maggie can recommend good restaurants and areas for shopping as well...
