I booked 4 nights at the Katty hotel. The place was recommended by a few travel guides. I must say I was suspicious, 70 Euros a night to be in the center of Rome sounded to good to be true. But when I got there I was pleasantly surprised. First, the location. The hotel is located in a quiet sector of Rome on Palestro avenue. There is a metro station 2 blocks away and it takes just 5 mins to walk to Termini station. You are also within walking distance of the Coliseum and the Forum. Just at the corner of Palestro you will find a convenient store (Pam express), a pharmacy, two pizza counters, and a cute Italian restaurant (Al 39). The hotel itself is very charming. It is located on the 4th and 5th floor of a 40's style building. The rest of the buidling is mostly businesses and private residences. To get to the fourth floor you have to use one of those cute old fashion elevators. I got a room on the fifth floor. My room had a view on the interior court far away from the street, it was very quiet except for the occasional noise generated by the local residents going to work in the morning with their scooter. The room was clean and in terms of style, it had a sort of Ikea look. It came with a modern air conditioning system, cable TV and a small fridge. The nice thing about this hotel is that you are totally independant. As the front desk is located on the 4th floor and I was on fifth, I never passed the front desk. I had my own key to get directly from the fourth floor lobby to my room. It felt like I had my own place in Rome. As a result I had little contact with the staff, but as far as the check in/out was concerned they were courteous. Overall, I was extremely pleased with my stay. My only criticisms is about the very limited number of accessories like no glasees inside the room. I recommend that you make sure to bring soap and shampoo as they give you limited amount. Also due to the marble floor in the lobby there can be a lot of echoe, which can be a problem if you have noisy neighbours (which was not my case). Nevertheless incredible value for 70 Euros a night. Reserve early though the hotel was full every day.
