Sweet Alice is a fabulous place! I stayed twice, once for 6 nights and once for 1 night. It's a Bed and Breakfast, but it's basically like renting an apartment. You'll have your own room with strong A/C, a very clean little private bathroom, and there's an espresso maker and little kitchen that's shared outside the rooms. THere are only 4 rooms, and it takes up one side of a floor of an apartment building, so you really feel as if you have the place to yourself, and the price is VERY reasonable, especially for Rome, which I found exorbitant in general. I paid 35 euro a night for a single person. Roberto and Barbara aren't there all the time, but they stop in daily to check on things, and they have a cleaning staff come in every day around noon to take the sheets and clean. Breakfast is self served, there's the espresso maker, tea, croissants, yohurt in the fridge, etc. One of the great things about Sweet Alice is that they let me keep my huge suitcase there while I went to Greece for a week, which saved me from lugging that thing around. I was REALLY appreciative of that. I would absolutely recommend Sweet Alice to anyone who's a self sufficient traveller, likes to have a clean, quiet place to stay without any bother from staff, and likes to come and go as you please.
Other cool things are that it's a mere 3 blocks each way to both the main Termini train station as well as the subway stop. EXTREMELY convenient. Someone previously warned me that the area surrounding Termini was a bit more dangerous than elsewhere, but other than a few overly friendly people saying hello on the street (maybe one or two catcalls, but come on, it IS Italy after all) I wasn't bothered at all, even when walking home at 2 a.m. The only thing you'll notice is that if you're walking down Via Principe Amadeo, it'll turn from very touristy hotels into a less clean, obviously immigrant neighborhood, about two blocks away from the B & B. Don't let this fool you. A) Immigrants are cool, as they really WANT to be there ( I've lived in immigrant neighborhoods half my life) and B) The building Sweet Alice is in and very clean, secure, and all that. Highly recommended! I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Roma!
Have a great time, and tell them Sara from the US recoommended you! I LOVE Sweeet Alice and will be back any time I go to Rome.
