“Fantastic Location”

My husband, two adult children, and I spent four nights in Figaro. Jenifer checked us in and showed us to our apartment upon arrival and was helpful throughout our stay. Figaro was very clean and larger than we expected. The apartment consisted of two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchenette and small living room. The windows were double-paned and kept the noise of the street to a minimum. The back bedroom facing the courtyard was very quiet. Reception times were noted outside the office along with emergency numbers in case we needed assistance when the office was closed. Wireless internet was free and worked well in our apartment. The location of Palazzo Olivia is excellent. It is close to restaurants and most major sites. Piazza Navona and the Pantheon are very close. The bus stop is across the street and taxi stand about a block away. Would definitely stay here again.

“Location, not luxury”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

Six of us spent four days in two Palazzo Olivia apartments - Figaro and Rosina. While you won't be staying in luxury you will have one of the best locations in il Centro at a very reasonable cost.

The property is on via dei Leutari which is a small street (a bit of an alley, actually) occupied by parked motor scooters and a few cars. Parking to unload will be a bit of a challenge. The entrance isn't well signed - it is on the left coming from Corso Emanuelle Vittorio II.

The bedrooms are comfortable - the living room in Figaro is tiny. They offer free wifi but the access point in Figaro wasn't working for our stay. Get the user name and password when you check in.

Guilia was great as we checked in - she showed us to the apartments and demonstrated the controls for the TV, ceiling fans and air conditioner.

Great location and a nice place to rest your weary feet at the end of the day.

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights in mid-September. The location was perfect, being a short walk to all major tourist attractions. The apartment was clean, tidy and very quiet. I can't speak highly enough of the helpful and efficient staff. Would definitely stay here again!

“Great location marred by incompetent staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

We stayed here for 5 nights at the end of August. The location is fantastic: just off Piazza Navona. The apartment is decorated in a modest Italian style; no design apartment but perfect for a short city trip. The double unit A/C worked very well. They also offer airport transfers for 50€, which is convenient (it's only 10€ more than a cab at the taxi rank would charge you).
Some minor quibbles: whilst nominally in a quiet alley, the position close to the corner with main thoroughfare Corso Vittorio Emanuele means that bus stops are close by, but there is actually quite a bit of noise day and night. The single-glaze windows provide hardly any sound insulation (we were on the 4th floor and could hear people in the street talk with our windows closed), which is inconvenient in a loud city such as Rome. There was a pharao ant infestation in the bathroom, which made us a bit worried lest we take this nuisance pest home with us.
The main problem, however, was the incompetence of the staff. I understand that there has been a change in management over the summer, and it shows. The girl at the reception can smile and dress nicely, but is unable to deal with any queries or complaints (wifi is advertised on their site, but is not available on the higher floors, and even in the ground floor hallway it is rare to get access). There were signs that the reception would be staffed from 8am-4pm every day during our stay, but in reality she was there between 9-11am - if at all. When we arrived, there hadn't been sufficient towels or bedding, and she'd made various promises to bring them, but never did. We had to go and ask ourselves after 24hours. Three nights into our stay we had to ask for fresh towels (there is no automatic replacement offer), which seemed to flummox the receptionist as if it were an unheard of request.
Maybe the girl was still learning, but the Fawlty Towers service level made that we found that this apartment, whilst in a splendid location, didn't offer full value for money.
