“Perfect for us.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

Due to a mixup on our own part we booked into casa di Maurizio for one night of our trip. The room was very pleasant, comfortable and well equipped. It was more like a room in a full hotel then what I expected to find in a B&B. The staff are also extremely friendly and helpful.

Overall we were more then happy with our Casa di Maurizio experience and fully recommend it.

THE LOCATION
It's a convenient 15min walk from the central train station in an unspectacular area; the rooms face the street, no stunning views;

THE ROOM
The room itself was fine: clean, decent size, ok-furniture, flatscreen-TV. Stayed in Room Number 3 which faces 2 streets, but with shades, windows and 2 curtains you won't hear much. Average breakfast is served in your room (there is not living room area, no kitchen or so). The bathroom - exactly as in pictures: rather big, superclean and seems to be close to new - liked that a lot!

now let's look at the HOWEVER:
a) no WIFI
b) it's cold. it's freezing cold. The room has no radiator. There is a radiator in the bathroom (which btw you can't control); but even if this radiator is running full steam, the room itself won't get any warmer. So the room has almost outside-temperature; There is an additional (clean) blanket available, still.

WHY 3 STARS?
It's not cheap, however not a total rippoff at EUR85. Clean, feels ok (not cosy, but decent). For EUR85 I would rate it 4 stars in summer, but not more than 2 stars in winter. Shall we say on average 3?

Bring your coat and gloves.

“Worked well for our needs.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2010

La Casa di Maurizio was a nice place to stay. We needed a place that was well located to attraction, transportation and our family that are residents of Rome.
To describe this B & B I would first start off by saying that it is in a safe residential / buisness mix area of Rome. Walking to and from this hotel at any given time during the day was a wonderful experience. Never at any time did we have concerns of our safety. As for many nights we returned to the hotel in the late evening by foot from one of the convenient cafe, restaurants, or local transit stops.
We were greeted each morning by Stefano the property manager. Stefano would serve a very lite breakfast which consisted of one piece of toast each, with butter and jam on the side, coffee and or juice and an assortement of pre packaged italian snack cakes. This would be served in your room at a time you had requested. A option to this is to enjoy one of the many cafe's next door or around the corner.
As for the room we stayed in, the Red Room, was very clean and made up daily. The bathroom that is contained in the room concisted of a stall shower, toilet, bidet and sink. No shampoo or conditioner for hair is supplied and the soap for showering came in a small little packet. A hair dryer was supplied apon request. Fresh towels were replaced every three days. The mini bar is nothing other then a small fridge with two bottles of water and a bottle opener. The satellite TV only recieved a few english speaking channels that were free. The rest of the channels were either pay channels or foreign speaking. The bed was very comfortable. The room had two sets of french doors that led to a wonderful balcony. As a non smoker we enjoyed the fresh clean smell of the room. No internet service available or a clock to set an alarm to wake up to.
Getting around Rome from this B and B was very simple. A short 5 or 15 min. walk will get you to either a bus or train stop. Do make sure of the area you wish to visit so you can take the correct bus number. That also includes the subway that travels about the city. The Termini Station is a great place to take care of both bus and rail travel and is close to Casa di Maurizio. I DO NOT recommend renting a car or scooter to do your travels in Rome. The traffic and driving habits of the locals is like nothing I have seen before. Foot, bus or train is the way to go. The B and B supplies a great map for free to help you navigate around Rome.
A few other items to mention would be to exchange your currency at one of the major banks in the city and not at the airport. Use your debit or credit card for dining or large purchases. Do let your credit card or your local bank know that you will be traveling out of country so they do not put a security freeze on your cards. Use your euros for that cafe break, sandwich stand or italian icecream during the day. Not that we experienced any trouble with pick pocketers but do keep your money on you that would be difficult for one to lift as they warn you to do in crowded areas.
As our stay ended at La Casa di Maurizio, I had arranged with Stefano to have a taxi pick us up at 6am to take us to the airport. The driver named Aldoe was not only prompt but had us to the airport in record time in a beautiful Mercedes. This was a lot better then having to carry our luggage from hotel to bus to train to airport that would take over an hour to accomplish.
Enjoy your stay in Rome as we did, and if you so choose to stay at La Casa di Maurizio please tell Stefano hello for us.

“Best B&B value in Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2009

We are a couple from the US on vacation, and had a wonderful experience at La Casa di Maurizio. The owner, Maurizio, was outside the hotel and opened the doors to our taxi upon our arrival. He is a very nice person and easily accessible. The hotel is up to date, and VERY clean. You can't beat the location - it's in a nice neighborhood, just minutes away from the spanish steps and Via Codotti. There are also great little cafes and restaurants off the beaten path in the neighborhood. A must dine is "La Pentolaccia" on via Flavia - great italian food at a good price.

If you are looking for a hotel with tons of amenities, this isn't the place for you. If you are looking for a safe, clean, renovated room in an ideal location, then this is it.

“A wonderful place to be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2009

As a just married couple we stayed at La Casa di Maurizio in June 2008 to celebrate our wedding with family in Rome. We stayed at Maurizio's and enjoyed every minute. It's a business area with the American Ambassy just around the corner and the Spanish stairs around the other. Bueatiful room with bathroom, all very clean. Hot cappuccino in the morning and a very large balcony. We would like to give Maurizio, Patrizia and Carlotta a big hug and hope to see them soon again.
