I have never taken the time to do a Trip Advisor review even though I have used Trip Advisor many times. This bed and breakfast was so great that I have decided to take the time to share our experience. Right from our first email inquiries, Rafaelle was a wonderful host, always replying promptly and offering to assist us with all aspects of our stay in Rome. When we arrived at the Bed and Breakfast, Rafaelle's dad, Giuliano, was waiting to welcome us. What a nice man! The bed and breakfast is located on the main floor of the building, which is great when you are hauling luggage. From the time of arrival, we felt very comfortable here. The rooms aren't fancy but they are very functional and very clean, same with the bathroom. Air conditioning worked great in our room! There is a computer in the hallway for guests to use which we really appreciated the use of to communicate with our 3 teenagers we had left at home and find out information about Rome. Breakfast is served in a common room and is available early. When I asked about an iron, Guiliano went and got it for me right away, which was much appreciated. We had stayed at another bed and breakfast on our trip, that when I asked for an iron, I was told "later" and it never did happen. Raffaele and Guiliano were both very helpful regarding arranging a driver for us to get to and from the airport and with taxi information. When we arrived in Rome, we ended up getting a taxi from the taxi stand at Ciampino airport where we had dropped off our rental car as we didn't know ahead of time for sure when we would arrive at the airport. The taxi driver had a bit of a hard time finding the bed and breakfast. He got close with no difficulty but then had difficulty pinning down the street. I noticed others on trip advisor saying the same thing so maybe ask Raffaele for driving directions from St. Peter's square before you leave home. Or, if you can commit to a pick up time, have Raffaele arrange for a driver to pick you up, may be slightly cheaper,no more expensive than a cab, and they will know the way to the bed and breakfast.
The location is within a 5 minute easy walk to St. Peter's Square. This bed and breakfast would be perfect for my 75 year old parents who would make the Vatican their top priority on their list of things to do in Rome.....few stairs to climb, close and safe walking distance to St. Peters and hosts that would assist them with anything they needed.
We did the Vatican Museum tour, get a guide as this place is too big to do on your own, and the next day, I walked over to go to mass at 7:00 a.m. The location of this bed and breakfast was so convenient for me to do this. It was beautiful being in St. Peter's with only a handful of people. 7:00 a.m is not an announced time for mass but it is when they open the doors and there were several visiting priests from all around the world there at that time of the morning waiting with you for the doors to open. They are there to say their daily mass at one of the many little altars situated around the Basilica. If asked, just tell the security people you are there to go to mass not just there for sight seeing. There is a book store that opens at 8:00 and the souvenir shop opens at 8:30 and you access both from St. Peter's square. I think maybe there were more souvenirs to pick from at the Museum gift shop but my tour of the Vatican which included St. Peters didn't exit out into a gift shop, it exited out into St. Peter's square, which was convenient to return to the bed and breakfast. The entrance to the Vatican museum is not at St. Peter's square, make sure you know where you are going before hand so you give yourself enough time.
Walking from the Bed and Breakfast to the sights in ancient Rome is doable. We walked one evening from the Bed and Breakfast to Campo de Fiori, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, (side trip to Giolitti's, the oldest ice cream parlour in Rome)Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. (Rick Steeves suggested night walk across Rome) We took the subway from the Bed and Breakfast to the Termini, then switched subway lines to get to the Colosseum without any difficulty and ended up walking home that evening. Make sure you check on what time the subway stops running in the evening. Cab rates start at 6 euro, and we paid 8 euro to get back to the B&B from the taxi stand in Argentina square. (in Rome when you are walking around, you have to ask where the taxi stands are to be able to get a cab) There is a taxi stand adjacent St. Peter's square.
