“Could be better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2011

We were kindly greeted from the host Paola, even though we arrived before planned. She also accepted that we payed later (please note no credit cards accepted). As a frequent user of hotels I always pay in the end anyway.
we stayed in the place for 3 nights, our room was cleaned once. Its quite close to the vatican but do not expect anything else for the area (I found it quite dodgy actually). The place itself has a very strong cigarrete smell but we didnt notice that in the room. You need to share the bathroom as well. Breakfast is across the street and is only coffee and a croissant.I believe the place needs a bit of a refurbishment and cleaning. When we left I realized noone was in the house, so I texted Paola on how we should pay..she asked us to leave the keys and money in the room. We (my mom and I) where the only ones in the house and I think is quite weird to be left alone in someones house. For the price we payed I think we deserved better.

“Unacceptable Cleanliness of Bathroom!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2011

We booked this B&B based on good reviews on this website and a recommendation of a friend. The host Paola was friendly and the room looked fine. But when she showed us our ensuite bathroom we were shocked. The entire ceiling and the shower area were full of mould! As it was already after 10pm, we decided to get dinner and stay the night.

Unfortunately, the night was awful. It was freezing cold in the room - even with two blankets on top of the duvet (I slept fully dressed). The heater did not work (February - it was very cold!), the room smelled heavily of smoke and the traffic noise from the street went on all night. We hardly slept that night and early in the morning we decided to leave the B&B even though we had booked for three nights.

It seems that there are different rooms in this B&B that are of varying quality. But I cannot imagine that this amount of mould would not appal everybody - especially given the price. If it was a 10 EUR per night accommodation I might have somewhat expected this...We were in an apt on the third floor. If you decide to book a room in this B&B, make sure you don't get the ensuite room on the third floor.

When we let Paola know that we will be leaving, she did not make any fuss or trouble. She simply asked why and accepted our unhappiness. We payed a certain amount upfront through the booking website which was more than one night's accommodation, but did not bother to get back the rest as we wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. We did not pay for the remaining two nights.

We cannot recommend this B&B.

“A good stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2010

We are very pleased with our choice. Rooms are big and very clean. The beds are comfortable and bathrooms spotless.

The location is also good. Very near the Vatican and short walking distance to the Ottaviano metro station. There's a Carefour Express and a Tosdi supermarket on the road behind.

The main drawbacks in my opinion - the poor reception of the TV and the room facing Via Candia is a bit noisy. Try to ask for Room 3.

Nevertheless, we have no qualms staying there again if we return to Rome.

“Good value but traffic noise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2010

Room basic but clean and comfortable. Good value for Rome. En-suite bathroom worth paying extra for. Room and bathroom cleaned and made up every day. Main negative is traffic noise particularly after 6 in the morning rush hour. The window is old and pooly fitting. Would make a huge difference fitting new aluminium sealed glazing. Kitchen advertised was out of action.
Breakfast at bar nearby was frugal but typical.
Area very convenient for Ottaviana Metro and 23 bus which gets you to close to Trastevere for restaurants or near enough to the Storico. Nearby restaurant not to miss Bella Napoli ( http://www.ristorantebellanapoli.it/ ) on Via Simone de Saint Bon (1st left before Metro walk 4 blocks.

“Very nice and reliable B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

We stayed at SecretRome in October '10 and were pleased with the way this place was kept. It is very clean, comfortable and safe. Olga did a very good job maintaining it daily. We did not have any problems on arrival as Olga contacted us in advance via e-mail and arranged to meet & greet us. Information on hotel web site is accurate and reliable. We booked hotel through Expedia. Place is very professionally run.
Location is convenient as metro station is 100m away from apartment, and Vatican is just around the corner.
The only suggestion would be to somewhat expand on breakfast choices. Breakfast was very basic to say the least.
We would definitely recommend this place to fellow travelers.
