“The perfect Domus to stay in!!”

My wife and I have just returned from a seven day trip to Rome.We opted to stay at the Domus Castrenese after reading the positive reviews on this hotel;and i must admit that all was true.Actually it's not a hotel like one would expect, though we knew what we would find thanks to the reviews we had read. It's an apartment on the second floor within a five storey building divided into six nicely decorated rooms.
The floors are accessible to with the use of an old elevator(Describing the elevator as old doesn't mean it's rickety). The building is very close to Rome's main train station ,Termini. So once you get to the station you don't have to take a taxi but you can walk as it's only 10 mins away.As soon as we arrived we were welcomed by Alfredo(one of the owners) who patiently explained to us how everything goes along within the Domus, with not to many formalities but with a service one would expect from a hotel.
We were given a map and he marked all the interesting places(colloseum is only 20mins away )The rooms are cosy, have a comfortable bed, airconditioned and equipped with an LCD TV.Every evening you mark your choice of beverages to be served for breakfast along with cornetto and toast and all is served in your room.Alfredo also recommended a Trattoria,Sapori di Casa, a few metres away from the domus. This the perfect place where you can eat great food in a real Roman environment.
Well we only have words of praise for the domus and we strongly recommend this place to all those who intend to visit ROME.

“Clean, close to metro, safe, spacious, and quiet, Free Internet!!!”

We love it. Three of us don't feel closeted in. Beds are great. Bathroom is very modern and clean. Breakfast in room is great and our host is very friendly. Quiet location with 5-10 minutes to metro. Room has very high ceiling and the antique lift is a hoot (you have to manually close the door) Only negative is a lack of good food nearby. But wifi is free, huge improvement after Venice where it costs EU5 per hour. Come back any day.

“Welcoming place, highly recommended”

i stayed for a week in this B&B and it was a very nice experience. in the rooms everything is new and spotless, the bed is very comfortable and it has a free and stable wifi network. the people are very kind and welcoming. one of the best B&B i have ever stayed at. I gave fewer stars for the service only because the hotel does not have a facility to enjoy the good breakfast that the owners prepare for you and graciously bring to your room. if this b&b had a common space it would be just perfect. the location is excellent for going to the university, the hospital and the touristy sites too, because it is very close to stazione termini.

“Fabulous experience from great hosts !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

Having never travelled to Rome previously I selected accommodation on the edge of the city centre to balance convenience with cost. I received prompt and helpful e-mail communication from the 2 owners - Max (Massimino) and Alfredo.

My biggest tip for people arriving in the late evening at Termini Station in Rome is to ignore the smartly dressed man who advises the use of a lift to leave the station. This leads to a scruffy side street where a bank of apparently unlicensed taxis wait for unsuspecting travellers !!! I walked as I knew the domus was less than 10 minutes walk away.

Arriving at midnight I expected long delays in waiting for the owners who do not reside on the premises. Wrong !!! Max was waiting outside in his car, showing us directly to our room.
The building is a fabulous large building converted into various apartments over 5 floors. Our room was on the second floor, serviced by stairs and a lift. The domus is immaculately decorated and our room was huge, containing a queen size bed ( with memory foam mattress) and a seperate single bed. The was a safe, a table and mirror, an LCD tv and wardrobe. The ensuite bathroom was large and contained a double width shower cubicle.

Speaking little Italian, Max then took me to a local trattoria and ensured I was able to get food and drink despite the late hour.

Breakfast was delivered to the room by Max or Aldfredo between 7 and 9.30 at a time we chose, and consisted of orange juice, tea, coffee, toast, cornetto (Italian croissant - lobely and sweet) and yoghurt.

The room was always tidied each day, bed made and the towels changed.

The building was located on a fairly major road, but as it was on the edge of the university district it became very quiet in the evening and we experienced no outside noise at all during our 4 day stay.

Max and Alfredo were always happy to provide tourism tips and provided maps to assist.

The domus is a 10 minute walk (at the very most) to Termini station where you can catch an array of taxi's, buses or tour buses to explore the city. We actually walked each day into the city centre, and the Trevi Fountain is about a 30 minute walk.

It is worth by either a bottle of wine or beer from an off-licence or shop and sitting at Trevi and just people watching, as the atmosphere is wonderful.

Rome was an exceptional experience, made all the better by Max and Alfredo and their premises, which completed the trip (oh, and my girlfriend agreed to marry me!!!).

I cannot recommend Domus Castrense highly enough, if you don't need to be right in the middle of the city centre. It is not a hotel but a very, very nice bed and breakfast establishment.

Thank you Max and Alfredo !!!!

“Superb B&B providing easy access to Rome's attractions”

Small hotel, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The rooms are well furnished and the staff extremely helpful. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from Rome's main station and provides a central location for exploring all that the City has to offer.
