The Dem Guesthouse is a short 5 minutes walk from Stazione Termini if you know the way. Cross the road and go to the next block by taking the corner shop selling magazine and fridge magnets. Dem Guesthouse is in the middle of the stretch.
The reception was attended only from 9am onwards and we were early. Upon announcing our arrival via the beeper (look for Dem Guesthouse) by the door (it is a hugh gate), Lauder came right down to pick us up. The rooms were on the second floor so the climb was easy. Check in was quick and we were on our way for our walks in Rome in less than an hour. We were also provided with recommendations of what to check out in Rome, which was expected. Maps were provided free. This was great as not all guest houses had this service. A frequent traveller will know that it takes time to get to an Informazioni Turistiche in Italy, and not all are close to the Stazione.
The room was of an acceptable size with private toilette and bath with hot water (which is a MUST for winter travel). Wardrobe was decent but short of hangers. There were only four. In winter, we had jackets and scarfs to hang, not to mention clothes and inner wear which had smelled fresh due to the weather.
Breakfast was provided and in the form of packaged toasted bread, croissants, nutella, corn flakes, milk, orange juice and crackers. Italian breakfast is expected to be sweet as contrast to a German breakfast which has a better mix. It would be nice if a bowl was available for the corn flakes. Also, we had to sit on the floor for breakfast, which was ok for us.
Suggestion number 2: have a simple set of instructions for the coffee maker as well. The counter was not manned in the early morning and it took a while to figure out.
For TV, you will have to pay for all the channels listed.
The room was alright for the price and I will recommend travel buffs on a budget to stay here.
