For the price, this has got to be as good as it gets. Excellent location, just a few minutes walk from the Vatican, excellent hosts in Caterina and Sergio, and really nice rooms, amenities and service. All of Rome's central sites are within walking distance (if you are up to it), with the more distant sights, such as the Colosseum, being an hour away. Rome's transit sytem is cheap and efficient, providing an alternative for getting around that is well worth investigating.
Only two rooms, each with their own bathrooms, and a small kitchen where you serve yourself at breakfast. A large supply of food is provided by our hosts, including a variety of breads, rolls, biscuits and sweets. Also yogurt, fruit, meats, cream cheese, various coffes as well as tea and hot chocolate and bottles of milk and water. All the dishes and cutlery you are likely to need are on hand, including corkscrew, microwave, electric kettle, toaster, gas stove and so on. Everything is spotlessly clean and Caterina and Sergio are friendly and helpful. Beds are comfortable (medium to soft) and air conditioning and use of the room safe are included at no extra charge.
Yes, you can hear the neighbours through the wall, which is common in this range of accomodation, but all is silent after 11 PM. Their is also constant traffic noise, though not loud as your rooms are on the back of the building. Closing the windows virtually eliminates outside noise. A few meters from the B&B is a great fast food shop called Pizza Pollie....take out or sit at the few tables they have. Very friendly service and good ready-made (but fresh) food, as well as beer and wine.
With regard to the tourist sites in Rome, admission fees go up regularly and we found up to 60% increases compared to those quoted in current publications. If you visit the Vatican Museums be aware that once you get to the Sistine Chapel you are forced to exit the museums and can only get back in by buying another ticket.
So, should we visit Rome again, I will not look for another place to stay: B&B Alla Cupola di San Pietro is the place for travellers on a budget such as ours.
