“Very well located, but very Italian”

If in Rome, go for this one if you are looking for excellent location. Colosseum being around the corner in 5 minutes easy walk, it makes this place a perfect one. It has got its share of cons though.
if you are told by the owners breakfast is served 8-10, dont expect to find anyone to serve it before 8:30. If you are looking for 3 beds, count on the third one would be a very difficult to sleep on being old and worn out. If you think of breakfast being someting more than a coffee and a single croissant, forget it. The wireless costs you more thn usual around there but these are just small things. But anyway, you could find much worse places around there in Rome.

“What a fantastic little place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2010

The folks at Casa Cleo were fantastic! There hospitalities went above and beyond. My friend and I truly felt comfortable and safe, like we were with family. I would recommend this Bed & Breakfast to anyone who choses to visit Rome.

“Fantastic! You won't find a better place to stay in Rome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2010

I first stayed at Casa Cleo in September 2009 and again in January 2010. The location of this charming B&B is truly ideal - you have both the luxury of being within walking distance from the colosseum, piazza venezia and the many other tourist attractions, along with the added convenience of close proximity ( just 2-3 blocks) to the train station. Additionally, the spacious rooms are characteristically quaint, cozy and quiet, and both the rooms/bathrooms are impeccably clean. Moreover, the owners/staff are amongst the friendliest, kindest, most helpful and accomodating people you'll meet in rome. I will be returning to rome on a regular basis, and there's no place else I'll stay - always at Casa Cleo!

“Don't stay here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2009

Booked online for 90.00 EUR per night for a Triple. There were only two of us, but we wanted the extra bed (however, the extra bed was not really a useable bed-very, very poor quality). When we got there a sign in the window said 40.00 EUR per night per person. The owner said if we booked online, we had to pay that price. So we got gouged 80.00 EUR. The room was dirty, there are only Italian stations on the TV & the remote did not work; there was no toilet paper off and on in the dirty bathroom down the hall. There was only one set of keys...if you want to do something different than your friend/ partner, one of you can't get in when you return, and the guy behind the bar can't help you (only very limited English is spoken). The bar where you check in is closed on Sundays!! There are five flights of stairs and an elevator for only 3 of the five floors that requires two 5cent coins to opperate. There are four keys to deal with, one-elevator, two-door on the street, three-door to floor of rooms, four-door to our foom. When you open the window you have a view of a filthy alley that stinks to high heavens. My advise- if you are absolutely desparate, crash one night until you find something decent, and never, never, never book online.

“Overcharged for marking a reservation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2008

All I say is don't make a reservation online for this b&b. We made a reservation to stay for 84 euro a night, which seemed like a good deal until we got there, and someone else walked in and got the same room for 50 euro a night just before us.

Because we made a reservation online, we could not cancel at this point due to the 24 hour cancellation policy. We were so upset because we had to pay over 100 euro more for our stay than the two fellow who walked in unprepared with no reservation. And then, they tried to make us feel better about paying more by explaining how they don't want to charge people less, but they felt they had to- not at all effective in explaining why we'd have to pay more because we were organized and tried to plan in advance.

It's like being penalized for being prepared. And it's a slap in the face when you see it happening right of front of you and you can't do anything about it.

the rooms are small and simple- and water leaked down from the ceiling during our 3 rainy nights. Breakfast is good, but there are many stairs to the room. Convenient location, but noisy neighbors.

  • Liked — good location
  • Disliked — Unfair room rates- rip you off right in front of you when you are tied to a reservation.
