“Comfortable and good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2009

This is my first time visting Roma, so when I was finding the way to San Lorenzo I found a bit too far away from the Termini. I had stayed there for 4 days. After 2 days, I found out there was a bus stop nearby (2 minutes walk, right at the back of the guest house I think). Several buses I found useful for me to travel in Roma. So I would say, if you can find that bus stop, the location of San Lorenzo is not bad.

Environment outside the guest house is good. There would be a gathering at night at the square nearby. I felt a bit scary at the frist night I passed by the square. But finally I found out young people gathered there were friendly and probably students in the Uni. Some bars are around the square. It is a good place for a few beers.

The room is small, but has all essentials. It`s clean and seems newly furbished. No formal place for breadfast. You may need to bring the breadfast into your room. Breadfast is self-served. Receptionist is very helpful, although she couldn`t speak well English but still keen giving us all the information.

All in all, this guest house is good. I will stay again for me next visit.

“san lorenzo guest house: nice hotel, horrible location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2009

After a trek from termini station through graffiti covered streets and having endured the stale stench of urine on the street corners, we finally arrived at san lorenzo guest house.
The San Lorenzo guest house is clean, comfortable and modern, and somehow seemed out of place in this neighbourhood. I felt safe once inside the hotel doors!
The staff are very friendly, helpful and very approachable.
The neighbourhood is quite intimidating at night, and during the walk back to the hotel, we noticed a couple of used ?heroin syringes on the pavement!
If we were to recommend this hotel to fellow travellers, we would suggest it as a suitable hotel for young backpackers on a budget. However, purely due to the location of the hotel we would not return there.

“Very nice place, too bad about the neighbourhood”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2008

It's a nice place in a less than beautiful location. The hotel is at least a 30 minute walk from the train station in a university area; there are no direct buses from the station to the hotel. There is a lot of graffiti on the streets in the area, and the hotel is a few doors down from the Salvation Army.

The rooms are very clean, well-equipped and spacious, and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly and gave us excellent restaurant recommendations in the area. There are cafes and restaurants and a local street market not far away, but most things on the street itself (Apuli) are closed in the evening and it is a depressing area to walk through at night.

The price includes breakfast which is truly horrible - processed long-life sweet cakes wrapped in plastic, sweetened processed cereals, sweetened uht juices, and coffee in a thermos; you are meant to help yourself and take these things on a plastic tray back to your room to eat. There are a couple of nice cafes next door which are open in the morning and ideal for breakfast.

It's a bit of a trek to the other side of town - there is a bus near the hotel that goes to the Colosseum, but if you are planning a night out it is a grim-looking place to return to late in the evening.

The rooms offer good value for money, but the hotel isn't for everyone. Better suited to confident young travellers than people looking for romance and beauty.

  • Liked — Clean, spacious rooms.
  • Disliked — Depressing neighbourhood too far from the main sights of Rome.
