We spent nearly two weeks in Rome for our honeymoon and chose Vicolo di Roma because it fit our budget, advertised English speaking and family owned and had availability for all nights.
The hotel told us that all rooms had AC and that they were located within a 5 min. walk from the Spanish Steps and very close to many restaurants.
We were very disappointed. The AC was centrally controlled and kept at 86 degrees. We both woke up in the middle of the night covered in sweat. The rooms all have windows onto the street however Via Sicilia is a major bus route and near a major highway so it's very noisy. The beds were less than comfortable and the amenities were sparce.
The Spanish steps were a good 20 minutes away and it's an uphill walk returning at the end of the day. There are some restraurants near by but most close early. The nearest Metro stop is at the Spanish Steps and the closest bus stop is just as far as the steps in the opposite direction.
We tried to contact the house owners to address the issues and try to find a resolution or get a refund and never did reach them. Manilo runs the house but speaks very little English.
The house keeper, Jana spoke no English but was the best part of our stay. She was very nice and made us great coffee and a light breakfast each morning. She gladly complied with our request for extra pillows and towels and even got me tea when she learned that I had food poisoning.
Overall we were extremely disappointed. We felt like we basically stayed in a hostel but paid hotel prices.
