How do I start... 2 friends and myself embarked on a Europe tour that took us to Rome and this place. We booked it on Expedia and in all honesty were ill prepared for what was awaiting us. In retrospect it's a funny story to tell but going through it there was anything but...
The booking said ensuite bathroom, well such a thing does not exist. In the end I was so insistent on having our own bathroom that the hostel guy gave us the key to one of the bathrooms but he did his level best to get it back, I felt like I was in a Monthy Python scene and this was just the beginning... after finally securing the bathroom we realised that the windows can't be closed properly and even if they can, it's no good as there is no ventilation in the room. So we had to choose between suffocation or going deaf from the maddening traffic that was going on all night below our little hell of a room. About the bed sheets: I never knew artificial satin existed but the Italians mastered the art of producing it... and that too in neon blue/yellow. I was expecting the movie crew to jump out of the corner and say this is a joke but it wasn't. I think it's sort of self-explanatory that we never had any food at this place. I took a quick look at the kitchen and that itself was enough to go on a 3-day hyper diet.
The final blow was the way we left. We had a very early morning flight to Madrid and had to wake up at 5am. We researched that there is a 30EUR taxi to Ciampino airport but Rome being Rome we asked our landlord to book it for us as we feared we would be ending up paying 100EUR. The poor guy wanted to make sure we leave his place and his bathroom so to make that sure he entered our room at 445am dressed in blue briefs, madly articulating. The whole scene reminded me of John Cleese in a Fish Called Wanda but I was in such a state of shock I couldn't utter a word. We left and I really really do hope I'd never be back to this place again in my life.
