“Style but no substance”

I read the reviews of this B&B both here and on the hotel booking website I used and was initially enthusiastic about staying here. The rooms look very nice and the location is excellent.

On closer inspection - the jacuzzi showers don't work, the rooms smelled peculiar, there are weird blue & green lights (sensors) in the bedroom that make it difficult to get to sleep, there are not enough pillows and I don't think the blankets/quilts had been laundered for a long time. There is no soundproofing at all, so if you squeak the neighbouring rooms can hear you! There are no english tv channels at all.

The breakfast was a complete shambles, the woman on the reception was blatantly rude, ignoring everyone to talk on the phone (even when tables needed clearing).

She didn't tidy up the breakfast things and it appeared that once the croissants etc that had been bought for breakfast were finished, it was just bad luck, even if you arrive within breakfast hours. I don't think that the free coffee/juice and water make up for the exceptionally poor customer service that we experienced at this establishment.

Also, note that the price does not include a 'tourist tax' which we had to pay in cash - 12 euros for the 3 nights we were there. We have never been asked to pay this in Rome before or if we have it was included in the room rate.

“Great location for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2010

When we arrived to this B&B, the first thing that was noticable was a very old (historic maybe?) elevator which could only hold one bag and a person and was dreadfully slow. Also, there was no indication of which floor we should go to, which happened to be on the 4th floor. We had to make multiple trips up and down to get our bags and family up there. BUT-once there it was fantastic! Lots of amenties and updated with a comfy bed, nice clean bathroom, flat screen TV, and very roomy accomodations. A very friendly owner and staff who served a nice breakfast each morning in a cozy area off of the reception desk. We could walk everywhere to shop, enjoy great restaurants plus we could walk over to the colliseum and other sights. It is also fairly close to the train station. We felt we really got a taste of Rome staying here. We would love to return to this charming B&B.

“comfortable stay in Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2010

We (3 adults+1 baby+1 child) had a very stay in this hotel. The room we had was clean, neat, comfortable, and large enough for an extra bed. The bathroom was also excellent. Breakfast was average but they provide unlimited juices, youghurt, and drinks (refresh us a lot after our each tiring day tour). Very friendly service from the staff. The location is very near to main terminal and 15-20 min walking distance to Roman ancient cites. A lot of restaurant and pizzeria nearby. Opposite side of the bulding (2 min walk), we found a hidden & simple restaurant which turn out to be favourits among Italian celebs including Monica Belluci :) ..well at least they put a lot of their celebs photos on their wall to show it..I don't know that's true or not :)

“just ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2010

This B&B is nice, but nothing amazing. The rooms are not very spacious, there is a zero view and nobody is present at the reception at nights... Being there by myself, I would be afraid! The breakfast choices are very limited and not very fresh.

“Superb Accommodation for your Rome trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2010

We recently stayed for four days in Rome and after much searching and deliberation finally chose the Relais La Maison. The staff at the B&B were superb, the owner Claudia was very helpful and Tony gave the kind of customer service that most 5* hotels would be proud to be associated with. He gave up his time to help us out with any queries we had about the B&B and any questions we had about Rome, he was a real credit to this fine accommodation and it was a breathe of fresh air to meet someone so genuine and helpful in such a frantic city. Our room was well featured and impressively large, particularly for the price we paid, it had a large and beautifully decorated bathroom and good views into the city toward the Santa Maria Maggiore church. The bed was extremely comfortable and allowed us much needed good nights sleep after long days seeking out and viewing the many sites of Rome. The breakfast was of a good standard and it was a welcome addition to be able to take drinks from the kitchen/breakfast area throughout the day. Perfect accommodation for our stay, conveniently located for the Termini Station (trains, metro and buses) and close to all the major sites, couldn't recommend this highly enough and will definitely do so to anyone looking to go to Rome in the future.
