This is a charming hotel to stay in especially during the off-season. We initially got a very small room on a lower floor but then requested an upgrade to a larger room with an outdoor balcony overlooking the city which we promptly received. This nearly 360 panaroma view from this room on the upper floor unexpectedly came in handy when the New Year's Eve fireworks started. Fireworks exploded all around us for a truly magical light show. And the fireworks kept going. For nearly another 2 hours. It was truly amazing. The hotel staff is very helpful. And the free breakfast is a nice perk -- albeit with the same continental breakfast menu every day -- although the opening hours seemed to differ between the weekend and weekday so be sure to check. I think the weekend opening was 6:30 am and the weekday opening was 7:30. In either case, the kitchen stays open quite late since we were still able to get breakfast around 11:30 am one day. You can also order free espressos and cappuccinos. We also got to taste some local special New Year's food, a pasta and lentils dish and another lentils and pork/veal dish and glasses of champagne from the staff including kisses on the cheek on New Year's Eve. Be sure to look out for the sweet stray black lab mix who waits patiently outside the door and will willingly let you rub its belly... ;) Notes: (1) You have to ask for the wi-fi login and password and there's a wireless access point for each room; you also have to ask for the hotel safe card key, so you may want to request these things upfront when you check-in, (2) You can email the staff before you arrive and arrange tours (but during the off-season, there aren't really any tours available to reserve, although you may encounter a tour guide at the Pompeii ruins) and/or airport pickup via taxi (pricey but you may find it worthwhile), (3) The hotel location is excellent as it is right next to the rear back entrance of the Pompeii ruins, although you may find it more convenient to walk about a mile to the main entrance which is near the main train station. The hotel is also located about a convenient half-mile to the Sanctuario church in the city square and along the way this walk is filled with quaint shops, cafes, and restaurants. This may not be a 4-star hotel but it's a very good hotel if you make some effort and try to meet the staff halfway to get what you want or need.
Room Tip: 37 is a very good room with an outdoor balcony that includes wide views of the city although some of...
