During our visit to the Amalfi coast in July 2005, six of us charted a yacht for a week form a company based in the port of Naples. We stayed at the Hotel Schilizzi for two nights on either side of our trip. I happened to find it on the internet. This is wonderful little boutique hotel and just a five minute walk from the major port in Naples. I believe it is either gay or at least gay friendly as many of the staff seem to be queer. The owner serves coffee and breakfast each morning in a charming little alcove off the reception area.
The rooms are extremely quiet, clean and spacious with contemporary and well-functioning bathrooms. The air conditioner worked better than any other I've experienced in Europe. Our room had a little terrace that overlooked the street. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy at night but certainly not unsafe. Even in the early hours of the morning, there was alway activity in the neighborhood. As in any large city, be cautious when walking around at night.
The hotel desk staff was very friendly and helpful giving us directions and suggestions during our stay in Naples. They even arranged a mini van with driver to take the group of us to Pompei. If back in Naples, I would definitely stay here again.
