The Ausonia is a good option for travellers in Naples. It is in Mergellina, a safe pleasant seaside area with plenty of restaurants and bars, both on the coast and the streets inland. The hotel is definitely quiet - protected from the noisy mayhem of Naples by being in a courtyard of a nineteenth century building, away from the traffic. It is well run, well appointed and very clean. The Mergellina metro stop is five minutes' walk inland - one way is three stops to the centre of the city, the other way out to Pozzuoli and Baia etc. This is an excellent base from which to see Naples and the surrounding attractions.

The Ausonia Hotel is a destination in itself! The hotel is decorated in a nautical theme including the room key chains! It is a charming hotel and the nautical theme is actually done well. Located right across the street from the hydrofoil to Capri and the Amalfi Coast it is in great location. My husband and I spent two nights there in September, 2005, and would certainly return again. The room was spacious and clean and very nautical!

This hotel was extremely clean with wonderful showers. The clerks at the front desk were extremely friendly and helpful! We paid 115 Euros in September and it was well worth the price, especially for the great location it was in. It is within walking distance of the train station and many, many shops.

We stayed 3 nights at the Ausonia in May 2004 in rooms 4 and 28.
Ausonia is a hotel ** situated on floor 2 and 3.
The reception and the breakfast room is at the ground floor.
The reception (opened day and night) helps much with plans and advices.
The airport is 45 minutes taxi and 20 euros.

Ausonia is in front of a fine little port (departure to Capri and other islands).
You can walk in the port or all around and it is quite safe. Many restaurants and pizzerias around.

The little bathrooms look like bathrooms you see in the boats. When you take a shower, the water comes everywhere on the floor... not very pleasant.

From room 4 or 28, you can see some "sea" but not much. The rooms are quite quiet and very clean.
The room 1 is larger but from the window you won't see the street but the yard.

Mergellina station is 10 minutes walking. From Mergellina station, you need 20 minutes to reach Garibaldi Station by tube ("Metro"). From Garibaldi, you can reach directly Pompei Scavi : do not take an accelerated or a direct train but a "directissimo", much quicker...

Breakfast is very simple: a croissant (with marmelade inside) and some "biscottes", little cakes, butter and marmelade (no bread).

I liked this hotel because it is very well situated and very safe all around. The taxis are in front of the hotel (because of the departure to the islands).
