My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Ausonia in the last week of September 2007. We were traveling from Siena to Ravello and had to stop over in Naples. I used Trip Advisor to look for hotels, and the Ausonia was given good reviews and was well-priced. Naples is certainly an acquired taste. If you've never been there (we hadn't), you might not know there are some areas you would not want to book a hotel (near the train station in my view, but also areas of the old town). There are lots of expensive hotels along the waterfront, but few "budget" hotels. The Ausonia was a very nice experience from its nautical decor to its english speaking staff. The hotel is quiet and clean--and near some nice restaurants. It is a distance from the train station, and you should grab a cab. Don't try to find this in the middle of the night without a cab driver as the hotel is on one floor in a building inside a large exterior door. The very friendly staff recommended restaurants (all excellent) and secured us a discount. We left the hotel with small gifts--a lighthouse key chain and a small wooden boat. Superb value for money.
