We booked the hotel in advance through its website, and soon realised that it was easy with our money - though the big hit came later.
The 5% deposit was processed via HOSTELBOOKERS.COM, and on top of that the hotel itself took EUR0.01 from our credit card. Problem is, our credit card company charges fee every time the card is used overseas, so that was a useless waste.
When time came to settle the bill, the receptionist, who was speaking OK Eglish earlier, out of sudden could not understand words "deposit", "paid already" and such (or read the printout of website booking form). He quoted somewhat lesser rate for the room, than in the original website quote, but counting the deposit we paid already we were few euros worse off . Hell with it, we thought, as we were in a hurry.
The most unpleasant realisation came a few days later, when we counted the money we had in the wallet left in the hotel's safe deposit box at the reception (there was no safe in the room) . We discovered we had less money that we should have ( we kept records), as there were one or two bills missing from the packs of ten bills of foreign currency. It was a significant hit.
The wakeup call we requested has never come, the WiFi Internet was only available in the hotel lobby which is dark and narrow passageway. Room was big, bright and airy, being on the 6th floor it was reasonably quiet, breakfast was OK by Italian standards.
The hotel is close to the train station, the area one has to pass through is quite depressing with hawkers, beggars, rubbish everywhere.
