“Villa Medici, nice affordable hotel in Bagnoli in a good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

people found this review helpful

This small hotel has spacious rooms with ktichenettes, AC, and TONS of storage space. The staff is friendly, the breakfast is good, and it's close to places to eat, grocery stores, both Metro lines, and a train station- all within walking distance.

What more could you ask for?

Oh, right- a nice pool where you can sit under a banana tree and sip a Peroni.

AND, if you're a runner, a short 1/2 mile warmup puts you right on the coast where there's a wide sidewalk. Run to your heart's content always out of traffic with a great view. Sweet!

Room Tip: If you're staying for a longer period of time, ask for the two-story room. This gives you a loft...

“Great hotel, great staff, great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

Ok, the location may not be the best, Bagnoli has seen better days, but if you're wanting to stay amongst Italian people and see how they live this is a great choice. The Hotel is attractive, clean, the rooms are large, full of light and have everything you could need. (Maybe a few more wine glasses would help though!). The staff are fantastic, very friendly and helpful. Maria makes the best coffee imaginable!

There are supermarkets, cafe's and restaurants about 10 mins walk away in Bagnoli. Pozzuoli is larger, livelier, offers more choice and is just a couple of minutes away by train.

The only problem we had was with Napoli's transport systems.... the trains are regular but why don't they link up better? Not the Hotel's fault. Stay at the Villa Medici, you won;t regret it.

Room Tip: Ask for 204!

I stayed for 3 month with my family. Our room was nice for long period residence. There are supermarkets which are very close to hotel. You can take cumana train line to naples citys center. Train stop is very close to hotel. it takes 13-15 minutes to city center. Staff was very kind and helpful for your requirements.

“Nice hotel, shame about the area...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2011

We went to Naples for just two nights, booked B&B at the Villa Medici because it looked close to the beach on the map and it was reasonably priced.. We had planned to chill out and explore the coast. The weather wasn't great but it was warm enough.

The hotel itself is ok, the dining area is a bit cramped and the swimming pool appeared to be growing algae, but apart from that it was fine. The beds were comfy, the shower had very good pressure. The place was clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful and polite, particularly Enzo. There's a train track just behind the hotel perimeter, the trains were loud at first but I guess we got used to it fairly quickly.

Then come the negative aspects... we were disgusted with Naples in general. The taxi drivers are dishonest and particularly dangerous drivers, they just want to get to the destination as quickly as possible and don't care how they do it. If you get a taxi you need to negotiate a price first or they will try and add on extras... just stand your ground.
The streets are filthy, we couldn't believe how much rubbish was piled up everywhere. The litter is strewn all over the pavement and the dogs have crapped on it.

The locals are grouchy and the staff in the nearest supermarket (Conad) do lots of tutting and sighing while they serve you... everything appears to be a real chore... maybe that's just the Italians' in general.
On a positive note, we went into the little food outlet on the supermarket carpark, it was brilliant, the staff are friendly and the service is great, we both had a tasty roast chicken and aubergine pannini and a beer.

The hotel is in an industrial area very heavily painted in graffiti. We asked at reception the way to the beach and made our way on foot trying to avoid the dog excrement. When we went on the road to avoid particularly bad patches we risked our lives with the traffic..!
The beach is a stretch of sand in front of a hotel and also absolutely loaded with rubbish. I can't understand why one reviewer said that the locals don't put the litter in the bin because they want to keep the bin men in a job.... that's crazy, seems like the bin men don't want to the job in the first place.

We ended up taking a farcical stance about the whole thing and took lots of pictures of refuse and dog poo.... just for the album..

We thank you very much for taking the time to leave your comments of your Villa Medici experience on TripAdvisor. Thank you very much for your remark which constantly help us in improving our standards and the service to our guests.

We are also very happy that you enjoyed your room. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience with the the swimming pool, but it is operative only between 28/05 till 02/10.

About your thoughts on the city, we confirm that Napoli went through a period a bit difficult, we're sorry that you suffered for this.

We very much hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back soon.

“Small but great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2011

I have stayed twice at Villa Medici. Its situated in a cute area in Naples, its close to the metro station, the area its not dangerous at all, close to the center of Naples by car.
The rooms are very cute in a romantic decoration but the most important its clean!
The breakfast its very good...normal for the italian standarts.
The staff its excellent ready to help you anytime, the reception its 24hs.
Its a pleasure to be in this beautiful hotel excellent staff, excellent rooms. Definately i will go again.
The only bad thing its the noise of the train...if you dont care you will enjoy it at full!!!
