The way I like to write my reviews, here are the facts:
Airport transfer – good driver, speaks En, gave some good tips. Costs 30e from the airport and 20e to the airport (add 10e if transfer is before 7 am or considered night transfer).
Location – very good. About 1 km from most areas of interest: ports, shopping areas, historic center and Circumvesuviana. So that would be a 10 minute walk at a normal pace towards any of these. Bus and tram stops are about 50 meters to the right, when exiting the hotel.
Check-in - very fast, for us it took less than 2 minutes. On the other hand I’ve seen other people waiting.
Reception – speaks English (depends on who’s on the job). If you’re Latin, you’ll get it anyway. They can provide maps and directions, plus other info. If mailing them, you have to insist to get an answer; if you can write in Italian – do that.
Room – we had a double executive room at 6th floor. Spacey, well heated using AC. Looked modern. The sitting area that makes it an “executive” double consists just of 2 small armchairs placed on the sides of a table smaller than a pizza. Bathroom – there’s a Jacuzzi style tub, but just for appearance. It didn’t work, and they didn’t fix it during our stay. We had a drain leakage problem, solved the next day.
TV – Strange combinations for simple commands (like press tv+5 to turn it on, press STB+5 to reach the channels !?). You have BBC in EN, Euronews in French, a channel in Russian, a music channel and the rest is in Italian, plus a channel in EN promoting tourism to Japan, so don’t expect to watch any movie (all foreign programs on the Italian channels are dubbed).
Room view – excellent view towards other people’s laundry. On the 6th floor you’ll have a partial city view as well. Below the 6th floor, there’s a 15% chance to have a good view (just a few rooms). On the other hand, hotels with good views are pretty rare in Napoli.
Minibar – Cola, Fanta, beer, water (mineral and plain), fruit juices. One of each. Daily refill.
Restaurant – good selection for breakfast, tasty. When it comes to lunch and dinner: average to poor food (not bad, nor excellent), you might at least get a better price outside the hotel. DON’T go to “La Torre” – 10-20 meters outside the hotel, to the right – you get same prices, for a joke of food. I recommend Il Pomodorino (at the crossroad between Corso Umberto and Via San Carlo, called Piazza Bovia, in front of an exit from Universita metro station or second location in Piazza Municipio;) – excellent pizza, pasta and other at very good prices – it takes 10-15 minutes to get there.
Room service – same food as in the restaurant + 5e for the service (mandatory, not tips).
Safe box – in the room, free of charge, easy to use.
Internet – sometimes free in the lobby at a hotel’s desktop. Wireless - paid access only. 4e for one hour, 8e for 4 CONSECUTIVE hours. Do not make the mistake to believe you’ll be able to use 1 hour now, one hour later, or just half an hour.
NOT AVAILABLE: spa, gym, shop. What you see is what you get.
Rent-a-car: DON’T. Traffic is a nightmare in this area, most cars are damaged because of this. Parking spaces are scarce. Just don’t.
Other/trivia: they provide 1 bath robe +1 pair of slippers in a double room with double occupancy. Guess they were expecting us to wear it in turns. If you ask nicely, you’ll get a second one.
Free instant coffee, tea and cappuccino are provided, but the heating mug had limestone traces that would peel off when adding water, so I couldn’t use it, not even after washing it.
Lobby – nicely decorated for a view, but you’ll get back aches if trying to use your laptop in the lobby or just read the newspaper. You can’t get a drink.
I don’t feel like I should recommend the hotel. My advice: avoid hotels in the historic centre. Go for those in the port area.
