We have stayed at La Vega for the past 3 years and it is a well kept secret by those who love it dearly. It is in the perfect location, 5 minutes walk up to the Piazetta where all the action is tucked away on a serene spot on a quiet street. The entire hotel has gorgeous views of the turquoise water below and also of the beautiful enormous pool. The rooms and bathrooms are all large and all have the lovely colorful Capri tiles throughout. There is air conditioning, of course, but we never use it as the ocean breezes keep the Hotel cool. There is a lovely new Breakfast/Dining Room just finished last year with a glass wall that slides back so that you are dining suspended over that incredible sea view. But most of all, it is the Staff that makes La Vega so welcoming. Helping with your every need while making you feel likefamily. A true gem on Capri.

For the most part we were quite pleased with this hotel. We liked the location of being close but not right in town. We had a deluxe sea view room, which was quite spacious with a large bathroom. The tile floors are very unique to the area and quite pretty. The balcony is lovely. The walls are thin, so we frequently heard doors shutting, toilets flushing and people walking in the hallways. Also the towels are pretty terrible, like sandpaper.

The pool is wonderful in its size and views of the ocean. It does, however, attract lots of kids, so it is not quite the respite we had hoped. The pool restaurant is quite good. We ate lunch there twice and found everything to be very fresh and flavorful. Breakfast was sufficient although we ate towards the end of the breakfast time each day and items were quite picked over. They did not seem to replenish much.

The front desk staff was friendly but the person we always seemed to deal with did not speak very good English. I was glad I had done my own research on restaurants, etc. as we were not able to get much information from her.

The porters were pricey – 14 Euro per bag and inconveniently, needed to be ready two hours in advance of our departure.

For us, this hotel almost got it right. They could change a few things, but I realize there isn’t much they can do about kids at the pool.

In the Alice in Wonderland world of Capri hotel pricing this hotel could be considered good value, but in the real world the 300Eur per night that we paid is twice the going rate. Having said this, the La Vega has many benefits, including:
- Great location, close enough to the Piazetta for convenience but away from the crowds of day trippers who invade each morning
- Fantastic views across woodland to the sea
- Very large pool, with excellent and convenient service
- Large rooms, also with great views
- Friendly, English-speaking staff

On the other hand, the hotel is showing its age and would benefit from the re-investment of some of the considerable income it makes from its customers, for example:
- Plumbing is worn out - the plug in our handbasin leaked continuously and we had to keep the tap running to maintain the water level
- Enhanced decor - the wall-to-wall tiling and simple furniture may be traditional but is more in line with a small guesthouse than a 4 star hotel
- Breakfast was average - although the range of items was OK, the quality was not great, for example mass produced rather than fresh orange juice
- The hotel lacked atmosphere - there is no bar in the main part of the hotel (the pool bar closed quite early) and the dining room has the feel of a staff canteen
- Although the bed was large, it was hard, as were the pillows

At a better rate I would have rated La Vega as a 4 but I think it represented only average value for money at the price we paid. Out of season (and mid-September is clearly out of season in Capri) one might be able to negotiate a better rate - we booked early but in retrospect we could have left booking much later and probably got a better rate

We stayed for four nights and they were memorable. Our room was very comfortable and had a balcony with a stunning view. The pool area was very well kept. It had a beautiful view and the staff made you feel at home. Lunch in the pool area was very well serviced. The food was fresh and excellent. At the front desk, Regina always was very attentive of guests, always willing to provide information or any other arrangements to make you feel you did not want to leave Capri.
