“Very quiet, calm, clean place with excellent staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

Actually b&b Relais Diana is closed in the low season and what they sell under this name (as its annex) is b&b Villa de Angelis. We traveled with an 8 month old baby and felt really good in the hotel. It is a 5-minute- drive from the center with beautiful view, close enought to the city to visit it but far enought to be in a very nice, quite area. Fresh air, spotlessly clean room with modern design and very nice staff. Lemon and orange trees, playground for children, free parking place. We will surely return with the rest of the family. One useful tip: althought I read in the comments not to do it, I used gps to get to the address. Don't do that or forget about the shortcuts, you can't do that neither with a smaller car. The main road takes you also up to the complex, it's not that narrow and steep. I highly recommend both Relais Diana and Villa de Angelis, it is a perfect place for your holiday!!!! Thank you also for Stefania for all her help and kindness!!!!

“We didn't have a good experiance”

This was one of the worst hotels I have every stayed at. My daughter and I, were looking forward to our stay in Sorrento on the Amalfi coast as one of the highlights of our vacation in Europe, sadly it became a nightmare. The hotel is advertised as a B&B, it is not a B&B it is a small hotel, which is very difficult to find and drive to, with narrow winding roads. Our room was on the first floor and although not over the kitchen we could hear every single sound, even the scraping of a knife and fork on a plate. The room smelt moldy with no air conditioning, even though it was advertised with air conditioning. After the first night of being kept awake by the kitchen sounds we asked to be moved, we were told no rooms were available. In our room the safe and the fridge did not work, it actually put out heat, and everything in it was warm. The bathroom was old with dirty tiles and a shower which was inconsistent going from hot to cold water in a second. Some of these things could have been overlooked if the staff were helpful and nice, which they were not. We tried to organize a boat trip. The only person who spoke English, Emanuela, told us she had arranged the trip. On the morning of the boat trip, which we were really looking forward to, she informed us that the boat company had made a mistake and there was no room for us. My daughter asked questions about other boat companies, and Emanuela did not offer any information on any other boat company, but she did say it was not her fault and told us the company she booked us on,had lost their license last year for booking too many people on single boot trips. This confused us because we didn’t know why she would book us with a boat company when they had lost their license. We decided to go to the port and find another boat trip, although Emanuela said they was only the hydrofoil to Capri, which was not the case as there were 3 different boat options when we arrived at the port.
This B&B also advertises a pool and a Jacuzzi, the pool is a small doughboy pool, above ground, which the Jacuzzi is too. The Jacuzzi was not even inflated when we arrived. The few times we just wanted to relax by the pool or at breakfast on the patio, the staff, who were actually the owners, insisted on turning up the radio, which was tuned into a really awful station, which played commercials every few minutes. On our departure I asked for a discount, as I had upgraded us to a sea view before we arrived, which was mainly of the parking lot. I also asked for a discount because so many things did not work in our room. I asked Emanuela very politely, who translated my request to Rosa, the owner. Rosa then started shouting and became very rude. They said they had discounted two transportation trips, from the train station and back, to 10 Euro instead of 15 Euro. I said we were told just before we arrived by email the transportation was 12 Euro, they replied it was 15 Euro, even though I had it writing as 12 Euro. This was the same with everything they said, all lies, they said it was 10 Euro to go to the yacht club where they had an arrangement for their guests, when we asked to go they said it was 20 Euro. I said they had recently emailed me to say it cost 10 Euro, they responded that was a special offer and no longer valid. They seemed to make things up all the time and lie. Also the breakfast was minimal, it was mainly three cakes which Rosa makes the night before, there were eggs the first morning, and never again. Hot water was left in a kettle and was lukewarm by 8am. It has the potential of being a great B&B, but with the facts above and the attitude of the owners sadly it was not.

“Fantastic views (from main building) and GREAT STAFF”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

We traveled with another couple who had previously stayed here 4 years ago - and strongly recommended staying here again while we were in Sorrento for three nights. This is an ideal place for anyone looking to be away from the main hustle and bustle of the town - but it could be a detraction for those who like to be "close to the action". PROS: fantastic views of Capri and the bay of Naples (weather permitting). One of the most pleasant and helpful staffs ever encountered (thanks Stephanie and all). We had the suite on the second floor (with another flight of stairs in the room up to the enormous bath area) The room was very spacious with plenty of closets, had a decent sized flat screen TV, great a/c and a wonderful balcony with views-views-views!!! In addition there is free wireless throughout the hotel and free computer use if you didn't bring your own, Rosa will prepare a great dinner for you upon request. if you drive North from the hotel for a few km, you can get an unbelievable panoramic view of Capri and the bay of Naples on one side and the Amalfi coast as far as Salerno on the other. The relais is away from the traffic and noise of "downtown" Sorrento. Bus service is available from a nearby stop. They do have a driver and car available that will take you down to the ferry dock, or down to the city for dinner for 15 euros. There also is a good restaurant nearby that will pick you up and bring you back to the relais for free. CONS: Our friends had mentioned before that unless one was driving a smaller car, the downhill driveway entrance (from the village street to the relais) was very restricted and quite "tight" to get through. Once you've navigated through the entrance and are at the relais, if you do want to walk back up the driveway to get to the bus or get something at the nearby market, the climb is very steep and is accomplished much easier by those people who are in great physical condition! Every morning we had breakfast with people who were staying in the annex - they were always complaining about the lack of view from the annex and the hike down and back up for breakfast or anything else that they needed from reception. When you book, check to see if you are in the annex (cheaper but apparently no views from rooms and lots of climbing) or in a "sea view" room in the main building, which are very nice. As mentioned in another review, the water pressure in the shower or hand held shower nozzle was low and the temperature of the water very "touchy". My major complaint was that there was an elevator present, but it was "out-of order" and it does not seem to be something that will be fixed soon, as they have a drawer/cabinet in front of the elevator door on the second floor(third floor to us Americans). After a long day of sightseeing, when I have no other options, I will climb as many stairs as needed to get to my room - but when I am climbing all of these stairs and see the elevator just sitting there, out-of-order, I cannot give relais Diana a 5 star rating.

Room Tip: Best rooms are in the main building, not the annex. I liked the location - away from downtown Sorren...

“All they say and more....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

The staff at Relais Diana were very helpful and made our stay extremely pleasant. We only stayed two nights but wish we had stayed another so we could get time to enjoy lounging around! The only slight draw back is that you have to either drive into Sorrento town or get a bus. Yes you can walk into town (approx 15 minutes) but at night it is not so easy walking up a steep hill. Would certainly recommend this place and we will be returning again.
