“Beautiful hotel with all of the right amenities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We stayed here for three nights in December and could not have been happier. As a family of 4 with two older children, one reason I chose this hotel was that they had 2 connecting rooms that had a single door into the corridor so that we were able to move between rooms without going into the hallway. Not only did we all find this arrangement to be comfortable, we found the entire hotel to be beautifully decorated and completely spotless. The rooms were on the small side, but the bathrooms were well appointed and modern. Our room had a balcony which overlooked the pool and a yard filled with lemons trees. In the distance, you could see Mt. Vesuvius.

The breakfast featured local pasteries, fruit, yogurt and a delicious pot of coffee. Items changed slightly every day.

The entire staff was most helpful. The owner, Gaetano, has been in the hotel business for over 30 years and it shows! One morning we needed a lift to the other side of town to pick up a rental car and we asked that he call a taxi. While we were eating breakfast, I had noticed that he had been visiting with a friend who, when hearing that we needed to go in the direction that he was going, offered to take us in his car and deliver us to the door of the car rental location! What a gift!

Yes, the hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the town center but none of us found that to be a problem. The rooms were quiet and we slept very well. I highly recommend Hotel Gardenia!

Room Tip: We had two connecting rooms with a single door into the hallway. A great set up for a family.

“Great Choice in Sorrento”

The hotel is spotless. The breakfast couldn't be better - cold cuts, veggies, fruits, hard boiled eggs, along with breads and a dessert bar, and much more. Friendly staff. The evening bartender deserves a special mention for looking out for us and being especially kind. We spent a day at the pool relaxing, talking with another family. A good pool for swimming, deep and big. The other 4 days we explored Sorrento and we took a cooking class. We didn't feel it was much of a hike into the main center (the center is a bit crazy), actually more of a short walk. Easy walking distince to the center, to the train (if you don't have bags - otherwise, take a taxi) and to the water front. The hotel offers food during the day. It was excellent. There are also many nearby restaurants we enjoyed frequenting. The room had a refrigerator and balcony. We heard from another family that the rooms fronting on the street are too noisy. Ours was on the side and b/c we had a lovely balcony, we could see Vesuvius and Naples Bay from the second floor. I forgot my wallet and check book in the closet and they contacted me immediately and held it until I could return several days later. They helped with tours -- which we would recommend. We went to Sorrento cooking school for a day, which was lots of fun. We had the best lunch on one of the wharves on the waterfront. Fresh fish, salad, pasta and proseco every day!!

Room Tip: Best not to go for the street front rooms. Those directly facing the pool and Naples Bay are much m...

“Home Away From Home”

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 6 night stay at Hotel Gardenia. We appreciated its location- close to Piazza Tazzo, yet far enough away from the busiest of town hubbub. Clean, comfortable, compact rooms, and a delightful staff ready, willing, and able to answer your traveling Qs and assist you with your needs. We found Sorrento to be a wonderful city to use as a home-base for our Amalfi Coast drive, train rides to Pompeii and The Ruins of Hurculean, and boat cruise to the isle of Capri. We look forward to a return visit.

*An option of fluffier pillows would be appreciated by many travelers. Guests should also verify parking costs in advance.

“The perfect relaxing spot!”

Great hotel within walking distance to the town centre (10 mins fast walk). Hotel room was small (typical European) but was clean with a comfy bed and great shower. We had a great room with a balcony overlooking the pool and out to Mt Vesuvius. The staff were friendly and efficient, recommending two authentic restaurants - one in town and another up in the hills which we would have never found if not for the helpful staff. The breakfast offered a sumptuous selection of cereals, breads and beautiful Italian cakes which would have been great for later in the day! All in all a fantastic hotel to base yourself in. We took day trips from here to Amalfi and Positano, the Isle of Capri and then one to Pompeii.

“Worth the walk...”

This was our fist trip to Italy. Gaetano and Antonio made us feel welcomed and took very good care of us. The entire staff was very accommodating and pleasant. The hotel was immaculately maintained and gorgeously decorated throughout. The breakfasts were excellent and the coffee bar was first rate. The rooms were small, but they had everything you needed and were surprisingly modern. The hotel was situated on the main street into Sorrento, so it was very noisy during the day; however, the road noise diminished significantly in the evening (our room was located on the side of the hotel and from our balcony we could see the main street as well as the coast). The walk into town was only 10-15 minutes along the busy main street, but it was very easy to manage. Frankly, Hotel Gardenia with its wonderful staff felt more like a 4-star hotel...it was well worth the walk into town!

Room Tip: The rooms at the back are quieter, but if you don't go to bed until late evening, the side rooms...
