My now husband and I stayed at the Capodimonte for a week along with my parents as during our stay we were getting married at Villa Fondi in Piano di Sorrento.

The hotel was lovely, we had a paid extra to have a partial sea view (no sea views available when we booked) and the room was amazing along with the little terrace overlooking the pools. We had some fresh fruit and Proseco left in the room to celebrate our marriage (although this was there when we arrived!)

The food was really nice, especially the omlettes at breakfast! The only thing that let the hotel down was the staff, the restaurant staff in the evenings were very slow and it could take 2-3 hours just to have your evening meal, so often too late to be walking down into the town to enjoy some of the nightlife and also the staff in general although helpful were very aloof and not very friendly.

Because we booked a wedding package we were supposed to recieve a free Lobster dinner for 2 but neither of us like Lobster and I'm not that keen on fish in general and when we asked if it would possible to exchange it for an alternative like a steak they refused! :-(

On the day that we got married we were eating our evening meal out in town with our friends who weren't stopping at the capodimonte so we asked if we could swap our evening meal for lunch and they refused but this time they at least offered us a packed lunch which we picked up at breakfast.

For amazing views and comfortable surroundings I would recommend the capodimonte, but I would say just book bed and breakfast and enjoy some of the delightful restaurants Sorrento has to offer! ;-)

First night we had a spacious room with sea view and balcony but it was on 2nd floor just above road and proved to be too noisy for us. Fortunately, next day we were able to move to a room at the back of hotel which suited us much better. In both rooms, the beds were quite hard but the rooms were very clean with all necessary requisites. 3.50 euros per day for room safe. Computer in reception area also payable.

View from restaurant was stunning but not the food. Cooked breakfast was better some days than others but never anything other than mediocre and we learnt what to avoid as the holiday progressed. The only thing that never improved and was the most unexpected, given we were in Italy, was the so called "coffee". It was brown and looked strong but any flavour was undetectable and it certainly had no caffeine hit.

Waiters seemed to have difficulty keeping up with volume of people at times and there was definitely an air of "end of season fatigue" about them.

We ate in the hotel restaurant one evening and food was mass catering style, probably designed to please the many "package holidayers" in the hotel. However, the restaurants in town that we tried (5 in total) were no better although they were a little cheaper.

Would recommend fixing price for taxi from station to hotel before journey as we were charged 17 euros - hotel advised us it should be 12. Both prices a rip off as can't be more than a mile! Needless to say, driver didn't get a tip.

Euro/pound exchange rate was one for one at time - so it hurt and probably coloured our views of Sorrento unfavourably compared to had we been there at a time when everything was better value for money. By end of break we were wearied from shelling out top whack for relatively poor value. Normally when away we either come round to thinking "ah well, things are expensive but really lovely so what the hell" or "things are cheap enough we can ignore the quality to a certain degree" but neither was the case in any of the Sorrento restaurants that we went to - obviously chose the wrong ones!

stayed here last week 19th - 26th October it is a lovely hotel- rooms - food - staff excellent - just beware of going so late in to the season as it was very cold or a couple of days and the hotel would not put the heating on.

Returned last weekend after a week at this hotel and have to say it was lovely which is high praise indeed as I am a very fussy traveller! We booked a ''prestige'' room which could not be faulted as it was spacious, well decorated with ornate furniture. The view from the balcony was a side sea view which was lovely. The hotel has many terraces and sometimes it was hard to get your bearings as the hotel has several levels. The cascading pool was not in operation whilst we were there and only one restaurant was open, although it was beautiful.
The hotel was a 5 minute walk from Sorrento where there were many places to eat. We were on a B&B basis as we like to dine at different restaurants, in particular L'Abate and if pushing the boat out...IL Boco. The trips to Capri, Amalfi, Postiano, Pompei and Revello were the highlight of the holiday. The only negatives were the outside of the hotel with its grotto appearance did not do it justice and the weather could have been warmer!

I have jsut returned from the Gran Hotel Capodimonte where we had our wedding reception and also stayed 2 nights in the hotel aswell. From the moment I sent an e-mail to the Grand I knew this was where we were going to have our wedding reception, I delat with Giuseppe ( the reservation manger), he was so prompt in responding to my e-mails, and nothing was a hassle. We had canopes and cocktails on the terrace and then moved into the main restaurant for our dinner. The room and flowers were beautiful and the food was to die for ( all our guests are still raving about it, especially the wedding cake! ), the service was excellent and the staff were so nice ( even at 4 in the morning when the drinks were still flowing!), Our room was faboulous it was overlooking the bay of Sorrento with stunning views. I would highly recommend this hotel, there was not one thing I can complain about, the staff and service was excellent . Thank's to all the staff on making our day the most memorable!
