“Nice hotel, but not staff!”

stayed here for 5 night whilst on honneymoon

hotel is lovely, breakfast is great and is at top of the sorrento town so walking in is easy (walking back is a little harder lol) anyway the big problem we had with this hotel is the staff seemed unhelpful and up tight, everything seemed a problem to them especially on reception

if they changed staff this would be a great hotel, but for price i expected a better reception from them

Room Tip: we were facing the pool and rooms were very basic , maybe try for a cliff facing room, we had a look...

“Great View from room balcony”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

The room is typical European, simply decorated, comfortable. Great view of the sea from the room balcony. Could sit there all day. The breakfast is very basic but ok, we did not have dinner here so we can't rate it but the dining area does not have the look or feel to it that would make you want to try it. It is a bit of a walk up hill to check in but most of the time there is somebody waiting at the entrance with a golf cart to take you and your baggage up to check in. A woman named Sara at the front desk was very helpful during our stay. They give you a code for internet access that gives you a limited amount of time for a few days. We found it to be a clean hotel, fairly quiet at night and we would stay here again.

Room Tip: Make sure you pay a little extra and get a room with a view of the sea, otherwise you will be lookin...

“Bed and Breakfast if you must but eat out!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011
10

The reviews on this hotel vary from excellent to terrible. One reviewer said that it was the worst hotel he ever stayed in. Another thought it was excellent. But why should the hotel receive such varying reviews in such a short period of time?
The answer is in in the circumstances which caused you to stay in the hotel.
My wife and I stayed from 4th to 11th October: we were on a tour organised by The Travel Department. As least 2 of the recent reviews were from people on our tour ( reviews dated 14th and 25th October) and generally I agree with these . I also agree with the reviews from those who travelled with Riviera Travel - some of them where at the hotel during our stay.
The hotel was noisy, it lacked atmosphere, the staff were surly and unhelpful and generally the food was awful - cold with very small quantities. On the other hand it was in a good location and the cleaning was OK - the cleaning staff did the best they could given the many of the fittings are old and worn-out - especially the showers.
Karen and Eric's comments about the dinners are absolutely correct. We ate only for 3 nights and then we dinned out in an excellent restaurant "Fenice" about 50 yards from the main entrance - not cheap but worth every penny. Breakfast too was awful - coffee from a machine, orange juice also from a machine and it was either white or red but never orange! Poached egg or omlettes were served by a man in a silly woollen hat (looked a bit like Benny from Crossroads but not as bright) who knew only two words of English "Five minutes" Bacon and sausages quickly ran out but never seemed to be replenished.
However I do disagree with Karen and Eric about Anna the tour representative. I thought she was totally useless - as I say this with the experience of representatives seen on other tours (this was our 4th Travel Department tour). She did, to be fair, try to make representations to the hotel about the quality of the meals but it was clear from the staff's body language that they were laughing at her and in the end they fobbed her off with half a glass each of cheap sparkling wine!
The Travel Department must take a lot of the blame for the poor quality food. The costings for the tour include an amount for meals. The hotel has to work within this amount. It is clear from some of the reviews that other guests are eating well and are quite content. (Their a - la - carte menu is very dood) Clearly the allocation for each person on the tour is not sufficient. This begs the question why does the Travel Department not make this a bed and breakfast only tour and adjust the price accordingly. There are many very good restaurants in Sorrento as we discovered.
This hotel would not last a fortnight in Spain!

“Worth a stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

A great location. Be warned many of the hotels on the 'edge of town' are up very steep roads with no pavement and an often treachorous walk or hit and miss shuttle service. This hotel is 2-3 mins flat walk to the gorgeous little lanes in the centre of Sorrento. Take it from this couch potato that the tunnel up to reception is not a difficult walk. If you do have a problem with mobility they will always take you up in a buggy. Everybody's luggage is taken up in a buggy and delivered to the appropriate room. Breakfast is fine, the usual fare. Suppers were ok, a choice of 4 or 5 starters, 4 or 5 mains and 3 or 4 puddings, nothing spectacular but quick service and more than adequate if you don't fancy eating out. But to be honest, you don't go to Italy to eat hotel food! The room was exactly as on the website, simple decor, modern and plenty of storage with spectacular view over the Bay of Naples and back to some stunning hills nearer town. Bathroom was clean and well kept. Certainly worth paying extra for a view and a balcony but those with rooms at the back still enjoyed their balconies on the cliff face! All of our group would stay here again and felt very pleased with our choice.

Room Tip: Get a balcony and a sea view

“Don't eat dinner at the Conca Park Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Rooms were reasonable and clean - we had a room overlooking gardens and pool but no balcony. Breakfast was reasonable providing you were down in the dining room early!
Dinner was a complete disaster, with a choice of 2 starters and 2 main courses each evening. The quality and quantity of the food was extremely poor and the food was cold and tasteless. We actually enjoy Italian food but this came from - we don't know where!!
There were several people in our group with dietary requirements which the staff could not cater for. Despite complaints from our excellent guide Anna there was no improvement. This hotel is most definitely not 4* and should be avoided.
