“Sophisticated warmth in Amalfi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We loved our stay in this B&B in the heart of the beautiful town of Amalfi. Our split level room had comfortable beds and was large enough for my family of 4 which included two older children. Our family room was beautifully decorated with antiques mixed with modern architecture. The master bedroom area on the upper level had a air of sophistication. Vincenzo, the owner, made us feel welcome in every way. He has created a delightfully warm B&B that you enjoy returning to after a long day of sightseeing.

Breakfast had everything you could want-including a homemade cake- that was incredible! This is a special place and we only wish we had stayed more than one night!

“"IN THE HEART OF AMALFI"”

I think we scored big time at snagging a booking at this B&B. My husband & I checked in Sept. 25th for a 3 night stay. We stayed in the junior suite equipped with an outside corner balcony. We had a bird eye view of all the hustle & bustle on the main street which, by the way, does quiet down at night to ensure restful sleeps. We did experience some rainfall & the resulting scramble of people diving for cover. This, we smugly witnessed from the comfort of our clean, bright, comfortably spacious suite. The robes and complimentary plush slippers were a welcomed bonus.
The suite’s walk in shower is very spacious- a rare find in Italy. I personally liked the separate upstairs loft which houses a king bed, ample closet/storage space & an enormous flat screen TV. The bathroom is on the main level so I realize not everyone may like the idea of going up & down stairs, especially at night. The advantage of this arrangement is that it makes for a very roomy yet cozy suite to spend time in (especially during inclement weather- which you don’t often plan on).
The staff were all very efficient right from the time of our booking till the day of our departure. The breakfasts were delicious. A special thanks to Lydia for saving us some delicious apple cake prepared by her daughter. Note: Each morning guests are treated to a different freshly baked dessert item compliments of Lydia’s daughter, this is in addition to an assortment of fruit, yogurts, breads, cereals, eggs, deli meats & cheeses etc…… On the topic of food, Vincenzo( the B&B owner) also owns & operates the restaurant L’abside right next door. L’abside has earned the reputation for having the “best bruschetta in town”- definitely worth a stop.
Also note worthy is that at night the staff do not remain on the premises but do supply a contact # should you require it. During our stay at Residenza Luce our suite began to feel like it was our own little apartment. Superior comfort, pleasant, helpful staff & a central location all combine to make this B&B #1.

We were delighted with this B&B. It has been very recently been carefully refurbished and our split level room renovated and re-tiled - see pictures.
We were made most welcome throughout our stay and heartily recommend this hotel.

“Delightful experience.”

This lovely guest house is in the very heart of Amalfi. Our balcony was on the corner of the lovely building, high above the main street. During our resting times, between our lovely boat trips to Positano, Capri et al, we had a wonderful time watching all that happened, from early morning to late into the night - from the washing of the street and bread delivery to the romantic candle lit late night dining. It was all great fun and fascinating; the weddings at the Cathedral, the religious processions and especially the jokes with the waiters on the terrace of the smart restaurant just below us. The room itself was very lovely, spacious, airy, clean and pleasing. There are high spec quality fittings in tiling, wood and glass. The bathroom was beautifully fitted and lit. The mezzanine level bedroom was reached by a beautiful glass and oak staircase from a spacious living area. Sound proofing was excellent, with effective but unobtrusive air conditioning. The best element of all was undoubtedly Vincenzo himself, who was absolutely unstinting in his efforts to make our stay perfect. We thought his restaurant in the little piazza, a few metres away just great. With mama making the pasta and, it seems, many of the family involved, he would provide pretty well anything you fancied. Everything was fresh and cooked to a lovely standard. The fish was bought fresh each day and cooked beautifully. There are about five restaurants spilling out into the little Piazza Doge, but Vincenzo's was by far the busiest from all we could see. We were prepared to spend more at more sophisticated venues, but found his totally pleasing. It speaks for itself. In this square you will also find a pharmacy, two supermarkets, a herbs and spices shop, hairdressers, a takeaway fried seafood shop and along a passageway, a limoncello factory. (But try Vincenzo's homemade version first!) We must mention Anna and Lydia who run the guest house between them. In short, they do everything possible to facilitate a lovely stay. Anna will happily organise your trips, taxis, porters etc removing any stress or hassle. The breakfasts are fresh and tasty with plenty of choice. Vincenzo is a charming, very hard working young man who puts everything he has into his work. Obviously, he makes good choices in appointing his staff who do him proud and he cuts no corners in his restorations. We would like to thank them all for making our holiday very special and wish them all the luck in the world which they richly deserve.

This is the best place we have ever stayed! We were there on our honeymoon and they made it the most special time we could have had, even down to providing homebaked gluten-free cakes! We definitely hope to return one day, it is a very special place. Amazing staff, great location and attention to detail that is second to none. We wish we could have stayed longer!
