“Very central, great view, noisy at night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

This hotel has some great pro's with just one con. We stayed in room 23 from memory which had a balcony straight onto the piazza so we could sit and people watch as much as we wanted and duck downstairs for food, vino, olives! The location of this hotel is excellent. The price is very good value for money and the service very friendly. The property is clean and facilities are what you need. Breakfast is good. Our only negative was the noise from the piazza at night. Around midnight the local kids set off fire works most nights of our stay - i am not sure if this is a usual thing but it was extremely loud and my husband was on a two week rest from Afghanistan so the fireworks really startled us in the middle of the night. This is outside the hotels control but it was something that was a bit much after 4 nights. Yes the bells went during the day but that didnt worry us. Our view was perfect. And we loved to people watch and drink vino from our balcony. We also had our 2 year old with us and everything was fine. Access to the hotel wifi was free and very helpful. Would suggest doing any day trips (eg Pompeii) from amalfi rather than positano as the buses go from amalfi. Amalfi was also better for cheap, local souvenirs. The hotel staff were very friendly.

Room Tip: We had 23 - it was the best room for a view with a balcony onto the wonderful piazza however we paid...

“excellent value, friendly place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

This is a nice hotel with very friendly staff. Breakfast is really good, with the very attentive staff waiting on you. I spent 5 days in this hotel for a conference and I would gladly come back and stay at this hotel. It has a beautiful terrace that overlooks the duomo and breakfast is served in this area every morning.

There is one caveat: As I mentioned this hotel is very close to the duomo, so if you want to sleep in, it would be impossible to do so at this hotel. The bells of the duomo ring every 15 minutes from 7 am to 10 pm, so this makes sleeping in and taking a nap impossible. If you want to do either of these things, I suggest finding a hotel farther away from the duomo.

“A birdseye view of vibrant Amalfi Piazza Duomo.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011 via mobile

We arrived earlier than expected and the rooms were still being prepared, not to worry! We were ushered to the balcony cafe and offered a coffee while we waited ...
No sooner had my Cafe Americano reached it's final destination when we were ushered to our room. What a view, the church to one side the street to the other. Lovely little balcony, good bed, clean fresh linen, big towels, good bathroom and shower.
The days were pretty standard for us, up early(ish) brekkie consisted of fresh croissants and pannini with sweet things, yoghurt and great coffee (Vegimite made it up with me on day 2) we would then wander out for the day, great walks, local shops or the beach 10€ two chairs one umbrella. SOLD!
Return, shower, glass of wine on balcony and watch the Amalfi square ebb and flow.
Then out for dinner See my review on Il Mulino, GREAT FIND!
These guys were friendly, and welcoming, great place to stay, will come back ..
But buyer beware, if you are a light sleeper forego the view for a back room, the "ebb and flow" goes on all night and then dovetails into clean-up duties of the bin-men. So if you desire a sleep in ask for a room not facing the square..
But it's all part of it really isn't it?
Ciao Amalfi!

“Noisy, and ripped off with the room rate - awful experience!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

Extremely noisy hotel where it was hard to get to sleep and then you are woken by the cathedral bells early in the morning. Room was clean, but the balcony was a little grungy looking out toward rather scruffy roof tops. Plus, I was quoted one price and then when I checked out they charged me a higher rate. Highly suspicious there was a little scam going on, as I noticed they hadn't logged me in on the hotel entry sheet and showed the room as vacant. Planned to stay for longer, but one night was more than we could handle. Headed on to Positano where we had a totally different experience in a fantastic hotel.

“great, friendly hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2010

I requested a room with a view of the Duomo; however, the bells ring from 7am to 9 or 10pm and are loud enough to wake me up if I don't wear ear plugs. Also, the people congregating below in the plaza could be too loud. If you want more quiet, ask for a room away from the plaza and on a different floor than the lobby! The lobby can get loud if the TV is on, and with guests checking in.

The front desk gentleman (owner?) is very nice, friendly, and helpful. Maybe a bit too casual for some - he was sleeping on the couch in the lobby when we were leaving at 7am and we had to wake him up. But he will look anything up for you on his computer. You can tell he takes pride in making your stay as wonderful as possible. Breakfast is excellent, with pastries, cereal, juice, yogurt, milk, coffee, etc.

Amalfi is a great place to stay to explore the Amalfi coast, especially if you don't have a car, because it's the start/end of the line for the SITA buses, which are a couple of minutes away from the hotel. The Hotel Centrale, along with the friendly locals, make you feel very welcome!
