“Excellent value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2010

We found the hotel very comfortable and suitable to our use. Very modern, but everything worked out well for us. The location is convenient being a few blocks away from both the train and metro stations and 10 minutes walk to the city centre.
The room are clean and with a lot of space; we also had two small balconies. The view from this hotel isn't particularly great, but it was nice to get some fresh air.
The hotel has free wifi internet connection and computers at the lobby which the guests can use free of charge.
The daily breakfast had a good variety of foods and the drink machine provided a good selection of coffees and other hot drinks. Self service buffet breakfast had bacon, eggs, tomatoes, beans, sausages, cereals, fruits, yoghurts, pastrys, hot and cold drinks.
We were very pleased with the hotel. All staff were friendly, helpful and most spoke English.
We chose it because of the location, price and facilities all of which were excellent value for money.

“Clean and friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2010

Booked this hotel online and they gave a discount otherwise it would be over-priced so be warned The room are clean and with a lot of space and there was a balcony overlooking the road but the bathroom was a bit cramped with the toilet close to the bath (with shower) and there was not a bidet.
Breakfast was overpriced at 16 euros per person and although it is a buffet there was only a small choice. We were a bit late and they cleared away the buffet while we were still eating so get there early or better still have breakfast at the nearby caf'e's.
The hotel accepts dogs so that is why we booked and has free internet and although there are one or two gripes this is still a brilliantplace to stay.

“Think Twice - Bedbugs Bite”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2010

My husband and I spent a weekend at this hotel in mid-NOV 2009 and wished we could take it back.

ROOM 202:

Although the room was orderly, it was dusty. You could write your name on the dusty furniture and the linen was just as dusty. We had requested a double bed, but were given 2 single beds; supposedly no other rooms were available.

These single beds were a blessing for me, but a curse for my husband! On the 2nd day, my husband woke up with some red raised spots all over his body, except for his head and face. He thought he had an allergic reaction to seafood, or something in the air. The pharmacist sold him an OTC cream to rub on the spots for the itching and antihistamine tablets for the morning and night, then sent him on his merry way. Throughout the day my husband was miserable, and was scratching like a dog with fleas!

His condition did not change on the 3rd day, but the itching was more bearable. We also asked to move to another room, because our room was noisy and had very little natural light. We were sent to ROOM 601, which was a bit smaller, but it had a double bed, a nice balcony and was well-lit. It was also much cleaner and noise-free!

However, my husband was a mess when he woke up on the 4th day! The raised spots grew overnight, and were now on his face and in his hairline, they were now between his toes and fingers, in his ears, in the palm of his hands and the sole of his feet! He had clusters in his back in several places and on his legs and arms. Some of the spots had a bright red top, as if they were going to pop.

My husband did some research on the hotel provided laptop, and figured he was bitten by bedbugs. Immediately we went to the front desk, showed the clerk the problem and asked to speak to the manager. We were told the manager was off on weekends, but returning on Monday; however, we were leaving that day, Sunday!

The clerk promised to check ROOM 202 for bedbugs and that the manager would contact us immediately on Monday. The clerk told us she closed the room from new guests until it was checked and cleaned. We asked if they found bedbugs to please tell us, and to kindly refund our hotel costs. She said the manager had to authorize it, but we would definitely hear from him on Monday.

Back in Switzerland my husband seemed to getting better, but by mid-week his condition worsened again. The doctor confirmed he was severely bitten by bedbugs and that he is naturally allergic to them!!! The doctor also found the OTC cream from the Valencia pharmacist ridiculous, because it was useless. The doctor gave him more aggressive medication, but he still has the marks left by the raised spots in his back, and he has hardened small lumps between his fingers and in the palm of his hands.

It is now mid-JAN 2010 and we are still waiting to hear from the manager of this hotel and to receive a full refund, and recover the medical costs. The manager never seems to be around!

On the brighter side, the hotel breakfast was good, and Valencia is a lovely place, minus the construction!

“Good value choice, although a bit noisy and we did experience bizzare theft from room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2009

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for the 2009 F1 Grand Prix of Europe. We decided to go two weeks prior and the Petit Palace Germanias was one of the few reasonably priced hotels available.

The good: The location is convenient being a few blocks away from both the train and metro stations, although a bit out of the heart of attractions in Valencia. Most of the front desk staff speak English and were helpful since we only know a bit of Spanish and zero Valencian. The lobby is bright with free internet access, while the entire hotel has wifi available (the front desk will assign you a username and password, you just have to ask). Breakfast was decent.

The Bad: The walls were quite thin and we were often disturbed by our neighbors coming home late at night and then again when them maid started cleaning in the morning. We found or room to be a bit cramped and although the hotel was revamped a few years ago, the materials lower quality materials are starting to show wear. This was most apparent with the shower, which had lots of mold and mildew and needed to be re-caulked. The floor also had some type of wood grain vinyl and was starting to peel. The space age shower was also difficult to use and had limited temperature control (hot and very hot).

The ugly: On our second to last day in Valencia I realized that I was missing two shirts that I had placed on a shelf in the closet. We had decided to not use the room safe since it required swiping "with a credit card or other magnetic card" rather an entering a 4-digit pin. Luckily we took our mobile phones, cameras, passports and everything else of value with us when we left. Maybe from now on I will lock my dirty clothes up? The manager did seem truly concerned about the theft and did investigate the electronic lock entry log from our room which indicated that the only person that had gained access to our room was the maid. It is possible that she may have taken the shirts when she was making up the bed, however the shirts were on a shelf in the closet...

Summary: I think if I had to do it over I might spend a few more dollars a night to be closer to some of the historic squares in the heart of Valencia. Aside from the heat, holding the F1 race in August in Valencia means that most of the smaller shops and restaurants close for the entire month while people hit the mountains and beaches.

“It's OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2009

The hotel is very well placed for the main station (5 minutes) and the center of the city (7-10 minutes). The rooms are functional if a little small with both wired and wireless internet access in all the rooms. The doors could do with a bit of sound-proofing as you can hear everything in the corridors really clearly, other than that noise isn't really a problem.
The buffet breakfast is ok, and typically european - this isn't a full service American hotel! You get what you pay for.

I was here working at the F1 and the hotel is convenient for transit down to the circuit (at least 3 bus routes a couple of minutes away).

My room had a shower and not a bath (rooms x02, x05, x07 are showers only), whilst it was small, it did have a 'monsoon' shower head.

I've had no need for contact with the staff so can't comment on their effictiveness.
