“Great location, shame about the smell”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

We stayed in this hotel for three nights. It was in a great location, away from the traffic of the busy main road, and within easy walking distance of the old city and the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.

There were many eateries around the area, and it was easy to get to and from the metro Xativa. If you are walking from the Xativa metro, go out of the metro at the Avinguda del Marquès de Sotelo exit and go past the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, heading in the direction of Plaza de la Reina. It took us about 10 minutes on foot to get from the metro to the hotel.

We had a very small room, which was clean. For two people with small luggage, the room size was OK. We loved having the internet access in the room.

The staff were helpful.

But the problem was the musty, drainage-type smell. We suspect that the smell came from the drainage pipes, as we had also experienced the same problem when we were in a hotel in Seville several years ago. It was a cheap hotel with only a sink in the room and shared toilet/shower facilities. The hotel proprietor in Seville kept putting the plug into the sink everytime it was cleaned. We noticed that when the plug was removed, the smell was really strong in the room.

So during our stay in Petit Palace Bristol, we put the plug into the sink and the shower and put the lid down on the toilet, when we weren't using the bathroom facilities. I guess we could have asked to be moved to another room, but we might still have experienced the same problem. We also had the window open, though this didn't help much.

We were in a room on the third floor, which was quiet, but don't know if other guests on that floor had the same smell problem.

We would like to say that we would stay in this hotel again if we came back to Valencia, but are not sure, as we don't know how the hotel management could solve this smell problem. We have rated the room as poor due to the smell problem.

Room Tip: If you have a strong sense of smell, this might not be the hotel for you, unless you get lucky and g...

“Had some issues, but overall an OK stay.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

We stayed at this hotel as part of a holiday package, so I can't really comment on the value of the hotel.

Location: It was very good in relation to all of the historic sites in the old city. It was a bit of a walk to from the station for arrival/departure, but not that big of a deal to be honest. We used bikes to get around the rest of Valencia (tip: the hotel bikes are free to rent but don't have locks, so it's only good to use them to maybe ride through the park in the evening or to the city of arts & science at night time, which is amazing).

Room Quality: The bed was ok, without being very comfortable. We had an issue with our air-conditioning on the first day. They had it repaired within 30 mins (credit to the hotel), but it broke down again at 3am. So we were given a new room the next day, but not before a very long sleepless night. The Internet in the first room didn't work, and I had to set it up in the second room too, not that it was a big deal though.

Breakfast: I heard it costs like €14 for breakfast (it came with our package). If true that would be insane, as it's not worth more than €5. It should be said though that I'm not much of a breakfast guy.

All in all, it's probably not the best choice out there for the price, unless location is all you care about. As we got it on a package and cheaper than usual, we had no real complaints though.

A final comment, in regards to the set up of the rooms as mentioned in earlier posts, we didn't really like the way the bathroom is arranged next to the bed. Because there is no solid door between the two, you really don't want to do anything more than pee. I often frequented the toilets near reception instead.

“Clean, modern hotel in the perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights with a friend. The room we were initailly given (on the 5th floor) was tiny and our booking agents had failed to request a twin so we had to share a bed. However, after 2 nights the hotel were able to move us and this room was much better. If you are put in a tiny room then ask to be moved. The Reception staff were helpful and seemed ot be the only people in Valencia who spoke English.
Other than some lumpy pillows and the lift being out of order for a few hours one day I can't fault the hotel. The air con worked very well, the rooms were clean and modern and I liked the decor. Yes some of the pictures on the walls are a little unusual but it made a nice change. There were no English TV channels but we didn't mind this. There is a welll stocked mini bar in the room which you can also use to put your own drinks and snacks in.

The hotel is a 1 minute walk from what I'd say is the main tourist square and there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and ice cream shops around.

My one tip if you're going as a tourist and go down to the seafront in the evening is to know exactly when and where you're getting your tram home. The area between the beach and the city centre is a bit scary and you don't want to be wandering around there in the dark as we were. Don't let that put you off going to Valencia though. It is beautiful and we loved how Spanish it was (ie not full of English people expecting English language and food).

Room Tip: make sure you specify if you want a double or a twin. Rooms sizes vary a lot.

“Amenities aren´t such a great deal.”

Stayed August 10, room 506 for 100euros. Not what we had expected to pay per Lonely Planet but we were tired and it was getting late. The ¨view¨ is of dirty, rustic housetops but itś a ¨view¨ and has a balcony. The hydromassage jets are nothing to rave about, just watergun squirts in pressure. The room looks nice and cool and has a computer in the room with internet for you to use. There is free WiFi but be sure to ACTIVATE the codes they give you same night because it will expire.

Do NOT get this room if you are a big-tall person. I am 5´2¨ and sitting on the toilet was tight with a pillar on one side and a wall on another. The sliding door shower is difficult to get into as well if you are not a thin person. the sink needs repair as it may fall off the wall if you lean on it for too long. Shower is slippery so be careful. This room has 2 singles pushed together so not ideal for couples if you don´t like to sleep on the crack.

Don´t count on the free bikes. There were 3 and 2 were broken. Further, they don´t furnish locks so you will have to get one if you want to leave it somewhere. AND they require a 75 Euro CASH deposit per bike. They may refer you to a bike shop just 2 minutes away for 10euros a day (these have locks)

Parking will cost 19euros a day. Be sure to ask for a room far AWAY FROM those with pets. Our neighbor had a barking-yapping dog who barked all morning incessantly and the hotel staff was unable to do anything about it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from guests with dogs

“Good location with a bizarre room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

We stayed here for one night before a cruise. The location of the hotel was terrific - perhaps the best feature of the place. The reception was decent - but not too helpful on what we could do and see in the immediate area. We waited a bit in the lobby before went went out because we had just arrived from the states and we were tired. Eventually we saw them set up for breakfast so we went out. We wandered a bit before coming back to the hotel We were able to check in reasonably early - perhaps noon.

We got to the room - had to figure out how to get the bunk beds to work and then we tried to get some sleep. I am not sure the beds have mattresses - they seemed a bit more like slabs of concrete without the warm fluffy feeling of steel reinforced concrete.. If you like stiff beds then you have met your match!

You had better be friendly with your travelling party because the bathroom seems to be an extension of the room There is a door - an opaque door that has no real privacy. The bathroom itself was a challenge - once we got the shower to work (somewhat) we did not turn it off until we all took our showers We afraid we could not get it to work again. Not sure what the contraption is supposed to be in the shower but water came out of several jets and not others, it was difficult to regulate the temp of the water and pressure.

The in room computer was a nice touch. Overall, I doubt I would stay here again. It seemed pricey for what we got but the beds were too uncomfortable for us.
